*** Exciting News - Please Read! ***

As many of you know I have opened a creative space in Newcastle where I have been running art and photography sessions for home educated young people. It has been quite a big undertaking and it has meant that I have not been as present in this group as I would have liked.

A number of my online students have been asking about what might be available in September and I can confirm that I will be running TWO fortnightly online photo clubs throughout the autumn term.

These will be a bit different to previous sessions in that they can be booked individually rather than as a block. I will no longer be using the learning platform as it was just too expensive to renew, so instead you will receive a zoom link in the confirmation email for each class that you book.

Sadly I can not offer recordings of these sessions as the logistics of sending these out is just too much just now. But as there will be two online sessions and two in person sessions I hope that this gives plenty of opportunities to attend.

There will also be a monthly online Bronze Arts Award session which will be open to students wanting to complete their Bronze Award in ANY artform (there will be in-person sessions for both Bronze and Silver running in the studio too).

The days/times for the sessions will be as follows:
Online Photo Club A - fortnightly on Mondays at 10am
Online Photo Club B - fortnightly on Thursdays at 9.00am
In-person Photo Club 11+ - fortnightly on Tuesdays at 11am
In-person Photo Club 8+ - fortnightly on Fridays at 10.30am
Online Bronze Arts Award - monthly on Thursdays at 7.00pm

The online Photo Club and Arts Award sessions will be £4 per session.

Please note that both the online and in-person sessions will have the same content each fortnight so if you can't make an in-person session one week you could catch up with one of the online sessions and vice versa!

In order to make the running of these sessions work as smoothly as possible I am going to merge this Facebook group into the group for my studio, so if you are interested in starting or continuing with online photography and arts award classes PLEASE JOIN https://www.facebook.com/share/g/TBqYayaT6hKCYMWo/

If you can't make any of the sessions I would like to continue running some Photo Challenges and Photo Shares over in the Cre8 Space group too, so feel free to join us for those too!

*** New Block of Home Ed Photo Club Starts Soon ***

Thank you to those of you that responded to my poll or messaged me. It looks like there is still enough demand to run my Monday morning online class, which is wonderful! I need a minimum of 5 students signed up for the class to run so if your young person wants to join me for this block please head over and book your space 😊

This block will be all about Nature, which a number of my current students are quite excited by! The first class will be on Monday 3rd June at 10am, and class lasts approximately 40 minutes. There will be 5 classes in the block and the recordings will be available the same day in case you need to miss a week. The full block is just £15.

New students are always welcome! No experience is necessary, they just need access to some form of digita camera, including phone/tablet.

Can you recognise the everyday objects in these photos?!

Home Ed Photo Club is back tomorrow (Monday) at 10am on Zoom. Do you have a young person who enjoys taking photos who might like to join us for this block - recordings are made available the same day.

In this block of 5 classes we will be looking at creating abstract images from everyday objects.

Just £15 for the full block (£3 per class).
No experience necessary.

*** NEW ONLINE CLASS FOR SUMMER TERM ***

The Summer term in Home Ed circles can be a bit of a funny one. Some young people are busy with exams, while others are spending as much time outside exploring before the schools break up in July. It is also when a lot of families book holidays to avoid the rush when schools break up. So I have decided that for the Summer term I am going to combine my Focus and Exposure classes into one Home Ed Photo Club which will be at 10am on Monday mornings.

The class will be slightly shorter and last approximately 40 minutes. Students will be set weekly assignments as with previous classes, and then the main teaching and learning will happen in response to the assignment images.

No previous experience will be necessary for this class, but there will be extension activities for those with slightly more advanced skills or who have been taking classes with me for a while.

Recordings will be made available the same day.

And don't forget that I can offer bespoke 1-2-1 online sessions for students who would like to take their photography in a different direction. (Just £20 for a 45 minute lesson!)

To book the Home Ed Photo Club use this link, or message me with any questions you have.

Student Image of the Week - Exposure Group

This is one of my favourite assignments - finding little glimpses of sky! This student got really creative with their framing this week and tried some interesting angles, here are my favourites from their set of images.

Student Image of the Week - Focus Group

The Focus students have been learning to read histograms to understand how the camera might expose the scene in front of them. They have been learning to notice areas of light and dark and adjust their exposure accordingly. This is quite an advanced skill!

*** North East Home Ed Families ***

I am extremely excited to be taking on my own little studio in the gorgeous art deco John Marley Centre in the west end of Newcastle.

I will be starting up real-life in-person photo clubs after Easter, but also I'll be returning to my early love of drawing and painting to run some art clubs too! The emphasis will be on learning skills and exploring processes rather than producing finished crafts, with a real focus on opportunities for the 11-17 year olds.

Plus, I will have various 'Drop In and Create' sessions where young people can come to hang out in a relaxed, low demand setting, meet new friends and try out new arty things. These sessions will be ideal for working on existing projects, building up an Arts Award Portfolio, or just chilling in a safe and welcoming creative space.

Those of you who are taking an online class with me, I am going to be changing the format of the online option a bit, but if your young person prefers online there will still be something for them. I'll be posting more about those changes HERE over the next week or so.

However, if you are interested in the in-person classes, please give my new studio page a follow: The Cre8 Space and come and join me in this group where I will be sharing more information about the various sessions coming up, plus some open days over the Easter holidays. https://www.facebook.com/groups/home.ed.at.the.cre8.space.newcastle

And it would be SUPER helpful if you could invite any local creative families to join too, just to get the word out and about in the community - thank you so much!

My Exposure Group's Student Image of the Week

This silhouette image is all about the little details of the flock of starlings - I can almost hear the intense chattering that would have been the soundtrack to this photo!

My Focus Group's Student Image of the Week

Yellow is the colour of early spring - and I can almost smell the gorse in this lovely photo. Taken with a nice wide aperture to create a shallow depth of field and beautifully exposed in manual mode!

I love this photo, the colours just make me long for lighter evenings and t-shirt weather! 😍

Found myself the featured photographer in an e-newsletter today. I have to admit, I liked being labelled, "Talent". 😃 Thank you to The Creator Lens for including me!
