Life in Japan is making me realize quite a lot of things. For example, the importance of local and international people. Interestingly, every country prioritises their own people who was born and studied there. Because obviously they are well adapted to the culture, rules and regulations of the said country. Moreover, which government won’t want to keep a gem to itself? Not only their own, even international people who are talented and might/might not have studied there but are” highly qualified for really good professional positions”, are given tremendous respect, support and facilities.
However, that’s not my point of discussion. What I want to imply is that why is Bangladesh different? Why is Bangladesh so obsessed over people who come from abroad, who are born foreign, or might have completed their higher studies somewhere else? Why are talented and people with potential not given importance here? One very small but common example is discriminating between 2 employees both of whom have completed their MBA, however one of them from India and the other from Dhaka University. How pathetic! Every country’s first priority is their own citizens, then comes people who are talented and then international people, that too based on qualifications and merits. It takes years for a person to be properly settled with good lifestyle, respect and recognition in a country other than his own. Obviously citizens have better benefits than someone who was never there. However, that’s not the same case here.
Sorry but not sorry, we are not valued enough. Right from childhood we have been told to study harder and live this tough life for a few years only to be able to study and settle abroad because life there is much more respectable and valuable. From the very beginning we are being trained to be able to live somewhere else and if a child tries to become someone different, turns into a patriotic, decides to stay and do something for his motherland, or maybe return after completion of higher studies, the people of his motherland doesn’t apparently value him enough which eventually makes him question his own decisions, when matter-of-factly he was never wrong in the first place. Let alone being valued, gems are not even recognised here. That’s the reason why we have always heard that our talent will take us miles but never “You will take your country to great heights with you”. Since not valued at home, we seek for respect and life security elsewhere. Who is to blame? Politics and government aren’t always responsible. The insecure, egotistical and over-confident brats of Bangladesh are the main reasons. Let me tell you, until we value & respect our country and ourselves as a whole, no one else will. People will always look down on us the longer we do it. It’s important that we start recognizing the potential of our own people, respect & value them, give them their rightful position and only then the world will recognize & respect Bangladesh as well. We shouldn’t be known as someone from Bangladesh, but Bangladesh should be known through us. Trust me, Bangladesh has loads to give, much better than anywhere else in the world, only if its people recognises, accepts & values it.
Anyways, long story short, Digital Bangladesh shouldn’t only be digital in terms of infrastructural development; people’s mindsets about valuing their own people more than foreigners should be developed as well. Only then the country will be justifiably digitalized.
Period.
