Europe’s biggest wildcat and one that once roamed the woodlands of Britain. Disappearing around 1300 years ago, widespread deforestation alongside persecution lead to their extinction on the island.

The presence of lynx in Europe alters the behaviour of their prey, keeping major grazers and browsers on the move which stops overconsumption of trees and grasses.

Could we one day see a return of the lynx to Britain?

Someone had an itch on their nose. 🐘

This rather than just talk about how endangered elephants are (although seriously they are in real trouble..) I wanted to highlight one of my favourite facts about them.

There are so many awesome facts but I do love that they use low-frequency sounds to communicate. These ā€œinfrasoundsā€ can be used for long distance communication and it’s thought that these calls are used by eles to coordinate their movements.

So next time you look at an elephant and think it’s not doing much, think again! It could be having a deep conversation for all we know šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

We are incredibly lucky to have these energetic and intelligent animals around the British Isles. Taken about 7 years ago this was one of the first times I had ever seen dolphins riding a bow wave. Captivated by their graceful movements I barely took any photos but just watched them in awe for as long as I could.

Forests and woodlands are one of my favourite habitats to spend time in. Not only are they vitally important for biodiversity and the health of our planet but just being amongst trees is enough to seriously benefit our mental health.

Having just watched the superb which focuses on the spectacular woodland wildlife found across Britain, I was shocked to hear that now only 13% of our isles are covered by trees!

As I fondly look back on some tremendous forests that I have been privileged enough to visit around the globe, I hope that we can all work to conserve the forests that we still have and where possible, start to recover them. 🌲🌳

I feel incredibly lucky to work in a job that I love, where I try to inspire others to protect the world’s wonderful wildlife.

Your job however doesn’t need to be in conservation to be a ā€œconservationistā€! We need everyone to do a little to have a healthy planet (and the most powerful in our society to do a lot!)

Manas National Park, Assam, India

Exciting things happening here for conservation with some incredible people and some outstanding wildlife! Will tell more of the story in the futureā€¦šŸ˜‰šŸ˜

Lots of love for Assam.

A pretty ā€œfun guyā€ on the last pic šŸ˜‰

Fungi can be pretty amazing but I’ll admit I know practically nothing about them.

I’ve been using and their app ā€œSeekā€ to help me ID fungi I’ve been finding on my walks. It’s been a great way to learn and gives you ā€œbadgesā€ as you ID more species (got to love those instant dopamine hits 😁)

One of the funnest bits is learning all the weird fungi names, for example the first 2 pics are known as shaggy ink cap, lawyer's wig, or shaggy mane!

I am so very grateful to be able to spend my life teaching others how amazing and important animals are. The cherry on the cake is working in a place where I can also keep learning and have wonderful experiences.

One of the best things at the moment….? Working in a zoo that has baby fossa!

I had never seen young fossa before and now that I have it’s hard not to use the word ā€œcuteā€ when looking at them! Fossa are one of the largest predators in Madagascar but these need to do some growing before looking for some tasty meat.
