A trio of egrets - cattle egret, great egret and little egret. The last photo is a bonus cattle egret as I wanted to show how they get their name - by following and foraging alongside cows.

Since my love for geese started a couple of years ago, I've been spending a lot more time photographing wild birds, and have developed a newfound appreciation for a number of species. One particular type of bird that I've really enjoyed photographing is the egret - in all it's forms.

Despite having my first sighting a little over a year ago, it's taken me a while to get a decent photo of a great egret, so I'm pleased to be making this post at long last!

All photos taken at - one of my favourite places to photograph birds. They currently have a large number of cattle egrets roosting on site which I was able to see on my last visit. I didn't take photos of this but it was really special to see them flying in in their dozens!

Snow leopard Nubra and her cub Bheri at earlier this week. Bheri is beginning to show more independence, exploring her surroundings under the watchful eye of her mother, but the strong bond between them is still very evident in these photos I took on Tuesday πŸ’•

(The second photo required quite a lot of editing, including removing the distracting wire fence in the background, hence the AI label πŸ™‚)

I've taken a lot of grey heron photos over the years, mostly quite distant with the exception of a couple of lucky sightings. For the past two weeks, this individual has been showing up on the canal near where we feed the geese, giving me some great photo opportunities! He / she is very bold so I've been able to get plenty of close-ups like these two - I actually used my 70-180mm lens for the second shot.

The geese are quite wary of the heron, and vice versa, so I am hoping the heron won't decide to stick around for too long. But for now, I'm enjoying the opportunities while they last πŸ™‚

Introducing Pat πŸͺΏπŸ‘‘

Pat is a local goose who has an issue with his wings and is permanently unable to fly. We met him a little over a year ago and quickly started feeding him, as we noticed that the other geese would regularly chase him away from food.

He's the biggest goose we know but is very sweet natured. He likes to grumble and can be a little grumpy, but he's a gentle giant really πŸ₯° He's also very intelligent and has figured out lots of ways to outsmart the other geese!

He hasn't been in his usual spot for the past few days, so today I took my camera and was able to get some different shots of him which I'm excited to share πŸ™‚

πŸ“Έ First shot from last weekend, second from July when the pups were still little.

Aardwolves quickly became one of my favourite under-appreciated animals upon first seeing them at Tierpark Berlin around 10 years ago. I instantly fell in love with the species and it's great to be able to see them once again at one of my favourite UK zoos πŸ’›

Celebrating Vulture Awareness Day!

White headed vulture (Chester Zoo), red headed vulture (Tierpark Berlin), and lammergeier aka bearded vulture (also Tierpark Berlin).

The former two species were new additions to my list this year, while lammergeiers have always held a special place in my heart. During my latest visit to Tierpark Berlin, I caught a glimpse of the pair's newly hatched chicks and enjoyed exceptional views of the adults taking turns with nesting duties. The nest's positioning allowed for some thrilling moments as the adult birds flew directly towards the viewing window.
