And here was me thinking I had a nice, quiet bank holiday weekend ahead of me…

It all kicked off on Friday. I was just settling down for a nice chilled morning of editing when I saw a post on a photography group I’m a part of that a photographer needed some help. She was stuck in hospital and had a wedding to shoot in Chester!

Not what I had planned for the day but luckily I could make it work and as my camera bag was already packed and batteries all charged I found myself out the door and into wedding mode before i knew it!

So that was Friday, Saturday was torrential, so I had a shoot reschedule and went jumping in puddles with my toddler instead!

Sunday morning was a big day! Up at the crack of dawn (and by that I mean the usual time these days! 😅) and off I headed to Moel Famau in the Clwydian Range, to work with the wonderful Katy of and her gorgeous family. We spent a cracking morning creating a family adventure film with a few photos thrown in for good measure. The drone was out, the sun shone and I somehow managed to climb Moel Famau mainly backwards and occasionally sideways while trying not to miss a moment!

Then it was off to Chester Zoo this morning, dodging showers and photographing a local family who were celebrating a whole host of birthdays with their extended family who are over all the way from New Zealand. The shower dodging was going so well until the very end… As I was heading back to the car I couldn’t help but stop to capture this magical moment of the elephant having a shower. Before I knew it the heavens had opened and I was every bit as wet as the elephant! 😂

The Fryer Family Film // Summer 2026 ☀️ 🐴 🍰

Summer evenings were made for ponies, picnics and precious family time! 💗

I'll be honest, film editing use to make me groan, procrastinate and eventually message my brother and see if he could do something with the footage! 😆 I've always loved the idea and the end results but the bit in the middle used to scramble my brain and fill me with dread! 😬 However, having dived so much deeper into the art of filmmaking earlier this year I now LOVE the whole process! Edit and all! I learnt it was less about how good you are at navigating the technical side of film editing software (although there's been plenty of learning there) and far more about getting to grips with the story you want to tell. 🎥

While the polished and more often than not somewhat posed photos have a special place on the walls of your home, I love the authentic family dynamics that film manages to capture. The sound of your ponies hooves on the yard, a shout for 'Dad, no, wait I mean Mum' and the sound of your children giggling are memories that are only going to get more precious over time. Offering a combination of both photography & film is filling me with a lot of joy these days! 🙌

There is still a lot to learn but I'm pretty proud of this little gem that we managed to film in a couple of hours a few weeks back. The Fryer Family are a gorgeous bunch and it was so lovely to work with them again!

Happy World Photography Day! 🌍

Not my usual 'best of' post but a slightly unglamorous behind the scenes shot of a shoot last week! 😆 I don't usually have a toddler in tow on sessions but here we are! A well planned nap didn't go quite to plan and before I knew it I was ambushed as I was taking the last shots of this session! My working life looks very different to a few years ago and the juggle is real but I wouldn't change it for the world!

Having your Photo taken can be daunting, I get it! My number 1 tip for making it feel less awkward...? Include a horse! 😍 Here are a few team portraits that I shot for .rehab earlier in the year. 🐴 📸
