The Emperor Dragonfly is one of the largest and most striking dragonflies found in the UK, recognised by its vivid green body, blue markings and large, striking eyes.

Did you know... Dragonflies can move each of their four wings independently, allowing them to hover, fly backwards and change direction incredibly quickly! This incredible control is what makes them such effective aerial hunters, catching smaller insects in mid-air.

The Razorbill, a distinctive member of the auk family, is recognized by its sleek black and white plumage and a thick, blunt bill with a white stripe.
These agile seabirds are typically found in the North Atlantic, nesting on rocky cliffs and foraging in coastal waters.

Did you know... Razorbills are excellent divers, using their powerful wings to “fly” underwater in pursuit of fish! They can dive to depths of over 100 feet and hold their breath for more than a minute.

The Trichonephila inaurata, commonly known as the golden orb-weaver, is a striking spider recognised for its impressive golden silk webs and distinctive colouring. Found across parts of Africa and Madagascar, these spiders create large, intricate webs that shimmer beautifully in the sunlight.

Did you know... Their silk can appear golden or yellow in the right light, and their enormous webs can span several metres!

~ Partial Solar Eclipse ~

What an amazing experience to watch a once in a life time event at Abberibbi Bay, yesterday!
The pressure was on as this was once in a lifetime phenomenon and the potential damage to my eyes (and more importantly camera) could have been awful! But with the help of research, planning and a polarising filter I was happy with my results. I even tried to ‘stack my images’ so the image below is made up of 16 different pictures! Although it is not perfect, I am extremely proud of what I managed to produce ✨

A partial solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth but doesn’t perfectly align. This results in only a part of the Sun being obscured, creating a stunning crescent shape as seen from Earth.

Did you know... Even during a partial solar eclipse, it’s crucial to wear certified solar viewing glasses to protect your eyes, as looking directly at the sun can cause permanent damage!

The Peacock, specifically the Indian Peafowl, is renowned for its stunning iridescent plumage and elaborate tail feathers. These majestic birds are native to South Asia and are often found in forests and agricultural areas.

Did you know... A male peacock’s tail feathers can grow up to 6 feet long, making up more than 60% of its total body length! They display these magnificent feathers in a fanlike fashion to attract mates.

Known as one of the fastest animal on Earth, the Lanner falcon is an incredible hunter. These magnificent birds can reach speeds over 200 mph in a dive, using their incredible aerial agility to catch prey mid-flight. They’re found on every continent except Antarctica, adapting to diverse environments from coasts to cities.

Did you know... A Lanner falcon’s dive is called a “stoop,” and they hit their prey with such force that it’s often killed instantly by the impact!
