Today it has been proven that autism is a direct result of genetics (National Autistic Society)
On 20th November 2024 we sat in a room with our three year old and heard the words
“Ezra is autistic”.
We knew those words were coming but it still hurt. No one can prepare you for that moment but no one warns you about what comes next.
“He’s too young to be autistic”
“Are you sure he’s just not lazy?”
“He doesn’t look autistic”
“He’ll talk when he’s ready…have you tried reading to him more”
“Have you thought about limited screen time?”
“Isn’t he too old to be in nappies…he’s a big boy”
“He’ll sleep when he’s tired”
“He’ll eat when he’s hungry”
“When does he stop rocking?”
And finally
“He’ll grow out of it”
So today….let us be clear that autism is not caused by “bad parenting” or any other factor a child is born with autism. So before you judge a sen parent stop and be kind.
Ezra was always going to be autistic…this was always going to be our path to walk. Nothing could have changed it nor would we want it to.
Ezra may have autism but autism doesn’t have him. He is our bubble obsessed, Paddington mad, funny, smart, loving, capable boy who the thriving 🥹
So today…let’s continue to make the world a more accepting place for people with autism ❤️💙💛💚
