AI can write your captions.
AI can create your graphics.
AI can even generate a pretty convincing image.

I was reading a survey this week that found as AI becomes a bigger part of the workplace, people are placing even more value on human creativity, strategic thinking and genuine connection.

Another study found consumers are becoming increasingly wary of AI-generated advertising because it can feel less authentic.

That's why professional photography isn't becoming less important. It's becoming more important.

Your customers don't just buy your product. They buy your people, your passion and the confidence that you're the real deal.

A professional image says:
โœ”๏ธ We care about quality.
โœ”๏ธ We're proud of what we do.
โœ”๏ธ There's a real business behind this brand.

In a world filling up with AI-generated content, real photography has become a point of difference because no prompt can recreate the atmosphere in a busy kitchen, the pride on a chef's face, or the craftsmanship behind a beautifully made product.

AI is an incredible tool and I use it myself but when it comes to showing people who you are, nothing beats the real thing and that's exactly why I'll keep pointing my camera at real businesses, real people and real stories.

If your brand could do with some fresh imagery, you know where I am. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ“ธ

England v Panama, and Iโ€™ve decided the best way to support the lads is by building a St Georgeโ€™s flag out of strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants (thanks Sylvia & Farmer Ken for letting me raid your bushes), meringue and marshmallows.

I've spent the last month and a bit photographing footballers covered in sweat, grass stains and determination so this felt like the slightly prettier, stickier version whilst still keeping with the vibe. โšฝ๏ธ๐Ÿคฃ

We grow up always being told not to play with my food but if you become a food photographer you can! ๐Ÿคฃ

As my alter ego, football photographer, knows full well, the best moments usually come just before everything descends into chaos and this little flag has a very short life expectancy because once Iโ€™ve got the shot, itโ€™s being smashed into cream and turned into the biggest Eton Mess imaginable.

So hereโ€™s hoping England donโ€™t make an Eton Mess of the football tonight...

Iโ€™ve already got that job covered. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‚

Come on England! ๐Ÿคโค๏ธโšฝ๐Ÿ“

One of the things I love about photography is that every shoot starts with an ideaโ€ฆ but thereโ€™s never a guarantee itโ€™ll end up looking the way it did in my head.

Sometimes the vision falls a bit flat. Sometimes you have to adapt halfway through. And then, most of the time , everything just clicks.

Todayโ€™s creative session was one of those days. ๐Ÿ“ธโœจ

I canโ€™t wait to show you what Iโ€™ve been working on because itโ€™s turned out even better than Iโ€™d hoped.

For now, hereโ€™s a little behind-the-scenes teaserโ€ฆ

After all the bright, sunny ice lollies this week, I fancied taking things in a completely different direction...

Meet blackcurrant sorbet. ๐Ÿ‡

Same frozen treat, completely different mood.

Where the ice lollies shout "heatwave" and childhood memories, this feels richer, more indulgent and more grown up. Like the dessert you'd order at the end of a great meal because you just have room for something refreshing.

It's funny how photography works like that. Change the lighting, the props and the background, and suddenly you're telling a completely different story.

For me, this image isn't about running after the ice cream van. It's about lingering over dessert, good conversation around the table and squeezing every last spoonful from the bowl because it's simply too good to leave.

That's one of the things I love most about food photography. It's never just about showing people what's on the plate. It's about creating a feeling before they've even had a taste.

I've talked about how backgrounds and styling can completely change the mood of a photograph. So... what does this one make you feel? I'd love to know where your mind goes when you look at it. ๐Ÿ’œ

It's funny how changing just one thing can completely change the way a photo makes you feel.

These are exactly the same ice lollies. Same oranges, same mint, same lighting and even photographed in the same session.

The only thing I changed was the background.

The white ice instantly takes me back to childhood summers. School holidays. The ice cream van. Running around with sticky fingers and trying to eat your lolly before it melted all over your hands.

The blue background tells a completely different story. It feels colder, fresher and more refreshing. It's the sort of image that makes you think, "I could absolutely demolish one of those right now!"

As a food photographer, I actually prefer the first image.

The white background lets the oranges do all the talking and leaves space for you to bring your own memories to the picture. It doesn't scream for attention. It quietly draws you in, and I think that's why it has more emotional impact.

But... if I was shooting for a national ice lolly brand, a supermarket campaign or a billboard, I'd probably choose the blue version every time. The cool tones instantly amplify that icy, refreshing feeling and make the product jump off the screen.

That's what fascinates me about food photography. It isn't just about making food look delicious. Tiny styling decisions, like changing a background, can completely change the story you're telling and the emotion people feel when they look at it.

So... which one gets your vote?

๐Ÿค White - the one that brings back memories.

๐Ÿ’™ Blue - the one that makes you want to raid the freezer.

I'd love to know which one you'd stop scrolling for... and why.

It's still absolutely roasting out there, so here's another blast from the past...

The FAB ice lolly. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿฆ

Back when six weeks summer holidays felt like six months, when you'd leave the house after breakfast and only come home when you were hungry, and when the sound of the ice cream van had you dropping whatever you were doing and legging it down the street.

A FAB was (and still is) always a good choice. The chocolatey top covered in hundreds and thousands, the creamy middle and the strawberry ice at the bottom. Three treats in one that always seems to disappear far too quickly.

First launched in the 1960s, the FAB has survived changing fashions, changing music and changing hairstyles, yet somehow remains exactly as it should be. As we say here in Lancashire, 'if it ain't broke don't fix it!'

For me, it's one of those foods that instantly unlocks a memory. School holidays, grazed knees, sunburnt noses, and that race against time before your ice lolly melted down your arm.

If the weather forecast is anything to go by, I reckon there'll be plenty of us rummaging through the freezer this week looking for a little taste of childhood and finding a FAB staring back at us. ๐Ÿ˜Žโ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ“

BTW, anyone recognise that plate? ๐Ÿ˜‰

You know summer has definitely arrived when opening the freezer and reaching for a Strawberry Mivvi feels less like a treat and more like essential survival gear. ๐Ÿ˜†

There's something about that combination of juicy strawberry ice and creamy vanilla centre that instantly transports you back to being a kid, trying to eat it before it melted all over your hands.

With the sunshine blazing and temperatures soaring, I thought I'd share this little taste of nostalgia. No fancy restaurant dish today and no chef's special creations, just a humble Strawberry Mivvi making hot days a whole lot better. ๐Ÿฆ

The only real question is... do you nibble carefully around the edges or bite straight into it like a savage? ๐Ÿค” Personally I'm a nibbler ๐Ÿ˜‚

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and if anyone needs me, I'll be standing in front of the freezer deciding which ice lolly to have next. ๐Ÿ“โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž

I've been a little quiet on here recently, but that's because football tournament season has taken over my life! โšฝ๐Ÿ“ธ

If you'd like to see what I've been up to, head over to 5 Little Boys Media for plenty of tournament photos, reels and highlights from some fantastic weekends.

As you can imagine, tournament food usually means burgers, chips and an alarming amount of cake. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, but the healthy eating plan has taken a bit of a kicking! ๐Ÿ˜‚

However, at the Colne FC Juniors Tournament I discovered a real gem in the form of ART Catering , run by the lovely Amy.

The meat comes from Drake & Macefield - Cross Hills, who some of you may remember from a product shoot I did back in lockdown, so you already know the quality is going to be spot on.

After spending far too long trying to decide what to have, I eventually settled on the Salt & Pepper Chicken. Served with homemade slaw, sriracha and a delicious Asian-inspired sauce, it was absolutely incredible. In fact, it was so good I went back and had exactly the same thing the following day! ๐Ÿ˜‹

A meal that was packed with flavour, freshly cooked on the BBQ and, best of all, didn't completely derail the diet.

I just thought Amy and the team deserved a little shout-out. Here's a photo of the dish that had me coming back for seconds... and then seconds again! ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅ—

Let's be honest now, sushi is proof that people will happily pay good money for tiny portions if they're presented beautifully. ๐Ÿ˜†

One of my favourite things about food photography is that dishes like sushi are the perfect combination of colour, texture and craftsmanship. Every piece is like a tiny edible work of art.

The challenge? Photographing it before someone eats it. ๐Ÿคฃ

So, in honour of International Sushi Day, here's a little throwback to one of my favourite sushi shoots.

What's your go-to order? Team California Roll, Salmon Nigiri, Tempura, or are you one of those adventurous people who'll try absolutely anything? ๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ‘‡
