๐Ÿ‘‚ It's hard to imagine them getting off the ground but the power from the 8 Pratt & Whitney turbofans is immense - and loud!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ At over 70 years old, the USAF continues to rely on the B-52 because it remains an effective and economical heavy bomber in the absence of sophisticated air defenses and because there has been no reliable replacement.

I made the trip to RAF Fairford last week in the hope of spotting the heavy bombers that have been deployed there since March 2026.

๐Ÿฆด It was quite an experience to see - and hear - the ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น ๐—•โ€‘๐Ÿญ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, nicknamed โ€œThe Bone.โ€ A long-range, multi-mission, supersonic bomber, itโ€™s an impressive sight on the ground and in the sky and, regardless of your views on its role, a marvel of aeronautical engineering.

Had a really long but enjoyable day with the camera at RAF Fairford last week which hosts United States Air Force (USAF) personnel.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Since 2019 the base has been home to a ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—จโ€‘๐Ÿฎ โ€œ๐——๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜†โ€ a highโ€“altitude reconnaissance aircraft operated by the USAF and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) since the 1950s.

๐Ÿ’ฅ Designed for all-weather, day-and-night intelligence gathering at altitudes above 70,000 feet, the U-2 has played a pivotal role in aerial surveillance for decades.

Got incredibly lucky with this one! Took a trip to ๐—ฅ๐—”๐—™ ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ on Thursday to try and get a glimpse of a Rockwell B-1 Lancer and a Boeing B-52 Stratofortress. More on that to come but, while walking around, I caught some movement in the corner of my eye and after some fancy footwork managed to capture this ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ž๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฒ with it's dinner (a Jackdaw I think). Despite the background being blown out, I'm still really pleased with these.

A relaxing couple of nights away at ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐˜€ last weekend. Enjoyed all that the Saunton Sands Hotel had to offer plus a lovely long circular walk to Crow Point. Love the North Devon Coast!
