Ten years ago(!), I photographed my first ever wedding at The West Mill (), not long after it opened its doors as a wedding venue. Somehow a whole decade has flown by, so to celebrate my WestMilliversary, I’ve pulled together a little roundup of some of the brilliant weddings I’ve been lucky enough to photograph there since.

Those four floors of industrial loveliness have seen everything over the years; big emotions, questionable dance moves, happy tears, some epic wedding cakes, and some truly excellent parties, all while hosting some of the most important days in people’s lives.

Summer fun-times and one of the best dance floors I've seen in aaaaages! Harry & Venetia's picked one of my fave venues (the excellent near Ashbourne, Derbyshire) for their main wedding venue! Such a cool place with all kinds of places for their guests to wander and explore.

They had a laugh, their guests had a laugh, I had a laugh...which, let's face it, is what it should be like at a wedding, right?! The best man, Kyle, brought some literal fire to his speech. Harry and Ve danced into their wedding breakfast, like the movers that they are, and they carried on those moves into the party. Honestly. Did I say it was one of the best dance floors I've seen in ages? Well, it's worth saying twice.

Not every one of your wedding photos is gonna be an album contender or a wall hanger.

Mainly because unless you intend on having an album that takes 3 people to lift, they won’t all fit. But also, because not every image is right for it.

Albums are great for taking your favourite moments that fit together to tell the story of your wedding. In a way that you can share all of the big, key moments with parents, grandparents, and friends.

But…weddings are also full of lots of other bits. Funny bits, messy bits, blurry bits, cheeky bits…as I said…lots of bits. These bits aren’t polished, they may not be glamourous or stylish, but they are yours. They show off your guests at their chaotic best.

Not every photo is meant for the album.

Some are just meant to be remembered.

I do love a garden wedding. Something about them just seem to make people relax a little more. And usually the garden has been chosen for a reason, making the venue extra special to the couple. In this case, it was Harriet's family home where she and Wojciech had their wedding celebrations. It's great that her family home will be a part of their wedding day, and their wedding photos forever. I could waffle on here about how the buildings we live our lives in are so much more than just bricks and mortar, but I'll maybe save that for another day.

After a ceremony at a beautiful nearby church (a more perfect rural village church you'd struggle to find), they walked their guests a short walk back along country lanes and ancient trackways back to the reception, for fun times, amazing food, shots, and a ceilidh to top the day off!

They've asked me to not post photos of any of their guests on social media, so you're treated to Harriet and Wojciech exclusively!

A super smiley Autumn wedding over in Staffordshire, to see Georgie & Jamie tie the knot. I properly felt like one of the gang for this, and right from the start I got swept up in all the banter, positivity, and fun, which kept things running right until the end. Such a fun day, and a couple of cracking venues, plus a quick stop at Rudyard Lake for some photos.

Oh, and the giant plate of roast potatoes was the leftovers from the bistro truck, and some poor guest was cajoled into putting them all on his plate. He had a good go at it, but they proved too much for him. They became a bit of an icon on the table for the rest of the day!

Georgie, Jamie, thanks for being ace and for making me feel so welcome.

Another school day for me at Amy & Alex's wedding at the fab Kedleston Country House () in Derby, as I heard the term 'twilight wedding' for the first time! (If you're as unsure as I was, it's a wedding with a later start. Mid-afternoon, early evening kinda thing.) Perfect for those smaller, more intimate weddings, or if you find the thought of a full-day wedding a challenge!

And though the day was shorter, the fun and smiles were full-size! So if you're thinking of having a slow, relaxing morning on your wedding day, here's the proof that you can still pack in a load of fun times even with a later ceremony!

It must be the best part of a decade since I last shot a wedding at Alrewas Hayes () in Staffordshire, so it was great to be back for Emma & Joe's wedding this autumn. Amazing to see how much the venue has changed, and it looked fab for their big day!

Lauren () & Leanne’s () wet and windy wedding at the brilliant is on the blog today. October did its best to throw everything at us, but these two just cracked on and had the best time anyway!

If anything, the rain made the day even better. Loads of cosy indoor moments, plenty of laughing at the weather, and a dancefloor that absolutely didn’t care what was happening outside. Proper good fun from start to finish. And a perfect way to finish my 2025 season! Thank you both for being bloody amazing!

Through these tough and challenging times, who knows what new rules are around the corner. If you've been struggling with finding a venue for your smaller, more intimate wedding, The Wonky Table is a fab restaurant, in a great location in Derby city centre!

After hearing the unfortunate new rules for wedding receptions we know many couples will be at a loss as to what to do.

As we are close proximity to the registry office, we have had held several wedding receptions over the years and our upstairs room is perfect for the wedding breakfast.

As a COVID Safe venue we are able to offer our WHOLE premises for Wedding receptions.

Perhaps something small for now whilst you await a new date?
We can offer bespoke menus and work with local suppliers.
