....Cyanotype is a combination of UV, and a complex reaction or iron which result in an insoluable blue dye otherwise know as 'Prussian Blue'. This photographic process makes 'blue prints' that can never be the same ~ making each one absolutely totally original.

🔴 FEAR #1. Will I feel forced to buy?
🟢 TRUTH: Absolutely NOT.
💙 Artists open their doors because they want to share their work, not pressure you into owning it. Your visit, your curiosity, your conversation - that already means something.

💙 At studio 10 you can just show up - have a go - enjoy the experience - and leave with a mini photographic blue print all of your own.

❤️ If you do happen to fall in love with something and take it home …that’s just the icing on the cake

🌷 Excitement is building as we begin discussing drop off and installation plans for our Tulipmania Exhibition and we’re all pinching ourselves that this is actually happening.
🌳Exhibiting alongside the National Trust is such a privilege, and one we all leapt at the opportunity of being involved with.
🌷 Their display of planted tulips is magnificent and you can find our work in the Slop’t Parlour
(what a venue name!)
💙 These are some 4:5 glimpses from a 88cm long triptych of toned Lumen Prints that will form part of the exhibition.
💙 Tulips suspended somewhere between botany, imagination and light.
🔴 All the work in the exhibition will be on sale from 11.30am Monday 13th until May 4th through the Dyrham Park Gift Shop.

💙 The little moments in the reveal of a cyanotype are what keep me coming back time and time again.

💙There’s never any guarantee the detail will remain after the water rinse so it’s a moment of fleeting wonder just for the here and now.

💙 If all goes to plan (and you’ve chosen a paper thin specimen) you get to keep the delicate, x-ray detail.
🌷 These tulips are destined for our exhibition alongside Tulipmania .

🤔🌷 Some historic economics for you. …

🇳🇱During the 1630’s in the Netherlands some tulip bulbs sold for more than 10x the annual income of a skilled artisan in a period of history now known as ‘Tulpenwoede’ or Tulipmania.

💙 It’s a subject that fascinated me during the fabulous time I spent working in the Netherlands during University and is one of the reasons for the name Bloemen & Blue.

🦪What part oysters played during this economic bubble - well we’ll leave that to another economics lesson perhaps.

🌷 celebrate their own tulip madness which sees over 20000 bulbs bloom in the gardens and we’re very lucky to be exhibiting our art alongside.

📍Running from 13th April - 4th May - come and join us in celebrating this historic bulb.

🌷 This is a single glimpse at a larger WIP that will be ready for the exhibition. 🙏

🌷Same subject - Seven different Styles. 🌷

🖌️ In seven artists studios a short distance from The National Trust’s Dryham Park it has all been about one thing:
The iconic spring flowering bulb 🌷The Tulip. 🌷

We’re all very excited to share just a tiny glimpse of some of the pieces that will form part of our exhibition for Tulipmania . And there’s plenty more to come …..

🌷Tulips. Tulips. Tulips. 🌷
I’ve (very excitedly) been selected along with a group of local artists to host an exhibition alongside the National Trust to coincide with their Tulipmania event in the Spring.
🌷If you know cyanotype you’ll have a good idea that Tulips aren’t the easiest subject to work with. They’re not flat and high maintenance in the flower press.
💙 But I’ve spent January simply experimenting with how to bring out the best in both. And (to make it even more challenging for myself) on Rice Paper because that’s what I will I need for at least one piece I have in mind 🤔

🌊 I’ve currently got a spontaneous mini exhibition 😊

🔵 I am the first to appreciate that it’s not exactly bikini wearing weather right now since I had the most bracing yet exhilarating swim and sauna in Holt on Saturday.
🥶 Let’s just say we made a lot of noise and bother about it and we were definitely not wearing bikinis.
🔵 But if you’re in the area do an absolutely cracking brunch plus the views across to Bath are sensational. Go take a look 👀
