3 of the Tarot card designs from the tarot card deck I produced for my A Level finals
Modelled by Katie
The first image, 'crossover' refers to the countless stories claiming that Drews Pond Woods is haunted and this image represents patients who once found peace in the woodland and roamed the grounds during life, passing over and still being stuck in the woodland and the hospital grounds on the spiritual plane. Colour representing the living world/ conscious plane and the bland, B&W side showing the bleak eternity of being trapped in this loop of endlessly roaming the grounds years on.
'The Sight' shows a woman in the woods using her potentially psychic abilities when looking through an ouija planchette (also designed and made by myself) to see the spirits around her.
Many women suspected of witchcraft in more modern days (than witchcraft trials/ burnings) - 1900s were often admitted to mental institutions in an effort to keep the streets clean of individuals who didn't necessarily fit into the expected norm of British society, along with the homeless, mentally disabled/ ill, old, physically disabled, Homosexual, Transgender/ Q***r. The most common excuse to put someone into a mental institution was due to them being poor, one of the above and unpresentable to the higher/ middle class society.
While in the 2020s, Spiritualism, Herbalism, Paganism, Witchcraft and other perhaps 'alternative' forms of religion are much much more common and absolutely aren't considered something which requires mental health support.
This image could also be seen, instead of from the 1900s as a patient, but from the 2000s as someone exploring the woods after researching its vast history and using their beliefs and gifts to try and connect with the spirits through the use of ouija, to then see through the eyes of a 900s patient.
