Another instalment from my graphics Alevel finals: Some more tarot cards but these are ones which i printed the images onto card, painted them with acrylic paint and inks and then scanned them back into digital formal to continue editing them.
I absolutely love how these turned out, I think that the paint on them really adds to the gothic aspect of this project.
To be honest these give me more Blair Witch vibes than Folklore/ History.
The first card 'save yourself' with her eyes covered by the word escape, I associate with the mental asylum topic of patients feeling trapped, tortured and just craving a way out.
'Damaged' is kind of communicating the frustration and conflict felt by patients as their difficulties and illness was seen as a handicap and they were made to feel like they're damaged or broken.
'Oblivious' goes links back to the 'hindsight' card where the treatment and medication puts the patient in a more docile, relaxed and perhaps oblivious state, to make them easier to manage.
'Rumours' is absolutely a folklore one which I think could potentially tie in with the mental institution topic as in the early to mid 1900s, men & women caught or suspected of practicing witchcraft were, instead of punished or trialled, seen as mentally ill or delusional and were sometimes sent to a mental asylum - now known as a mental health hospital.
'Haunted' is completely related to the ghost stories that surround what was the Roundway Mental Asylum, with some added horror/ intensity due to my love for supernatural horror books and movies.

The Moonrakers, Devizes - Collection 2 (Bar)
I love doing more functional photography and its a great way to practice my 'art', if you will, and be able to contribute to my workplace.
I love the classic, maybe a little bit retro, little bit rustic vibe ive managed to create with these bar images. I will definitely try to find some time to get some more bar shots as for some reason the bar collection was my favourite. I also want to add a restaurant collection to my Moonrakers project but that's still in progress but is coming very soon.

Please leave me some comments of what you think, any feedback, which image is your favourite and why? All of these things help me improve and expand my photography projects.

The Moonrakers Devizes - Collection 1 (Front of building/ outside)
I absolutely love this building, so many original features that just add such a gorgeous touch of age to it, all the different angles and textures, the now irregular shape of it is so beautiful. Maybe im just a bit strange with my love of original buildings and everything with age and a history, but this building is driven and walked past so often that I feel no one appreciates it's interesting character.
So much time and effort has gone into this moonrakers project already but I'm loving it!

The first image, 'crossover' refers to the countless stories claiming that Drews Pond Woods is haunted and this image represents patients who once found peace in the woodland and roamed the grounds during life, passing over and still being stuck in the woodland and the hospital grounds on the spiritual plane. Colour representing the living world/ conscious plane and the bland, B&W side showing the bleak eternity of being trapped in this loop of endlessly roaming the grounds years on.

'The Sight' shows a woman in the woods using her potentially psychic abilities when looking through an ouija planchette (also designed and made by myself) to see the spirits around her.
Many women suspected of witchcraft in more modern days (than witchcraft trials/ burnings) - 1900s were often admitted to mental institutions in an effort to keep the streets clean of individuals who didn't necessarily fit into the expected norm of British society, along with the homeless, mentally disabled/ ill, old, physically disabled, Homosexual, Transgender/ Q***r. The most common excuse to put someone into a mental institution was due to them being poor, one of the above and unpresentable to the higher/ middle class society.
While in the 2020s, Spiritualism, Herbalism, Paganism, Witchcraft and other perhaps 'alternative' forms of religion are much much more common and absolutely aren't considered something which requires mental health support.
This image could also be seen, instead of from the 1900s as a patient, but from the 2000s as someone exploring the woods after researching its vast history and using their beliefs and gifts to try and connect with the spirits through the use of ouija, to then see through the eyes of a 900s patient.

I can finally share the project that I worked on with Katie.
Photoshoot taken in Drew’s Pond woods and the grounds of the old roundway mental hospital.
A project to reflect on mental health and treatment through time. This particular collection of images are to show how mental health was perceived as being an illusion within the mind and how different meditations and treatments would affect the patients’ perception of the world. I like to leave a lot up to the viewer in my projects as everyone has a different outlook and a different perspective of everything.
Let me know how you perceive the images based on the short backstory of this collection.
