Last night I joined the .photography.club for an evening photo walk around the city.

It’s easy to focus on the negatives, but photography has taught me to look a little closer. Doncaster is a much nicer place than many people give it credit for. Every street, every person, and every sunset has a story to tell.

Here are a few of my favourite moments from the evening.

WE ARE DONNY - A film by David8 Photography 🎥

We Are Donny is part of the Inside Out Project — a global participatory art movement created by JR Artist that has united over 600,000 people across 154 countries through large-scale black and white portrait photography displayed in public spaces.

“Every face tells a story and every story matters.”

Huge shout out and thank you to David for capturing what has been an incredible journey 👏 As well as taking many of the portrait photographs, David has also trained some of the young people in how to take the photographs themselves. It was great seeing his creative skills being shared!

Highland cows are one of those animals I can never just walk past.

I don’t know if it’s because they remind me of Chewbacca, or because they always seem so calm and unbothered by everything around them. There’s something about them that feels peaceful, yet powerful at the same time.

What about you? Is there an animal you always stop to admire? I’d love to know your answer.

What a project this has been ❤️📸✈️

Over the past few months I’ve had the privilege of being part of We Are Donny with Right Up Our Street⁠, photographing so many faces from across Doncaster, capturing moments behind the scenes, and finally documenting the installation at the airport.

Seeing over 500 young people arrive and start searching for their own faces on the runway was genuinely something special. 🥹

It’s been one of those projects where I’ve been lucky enough to see so much of the journey, from taking individual portraits to seeing them become part of something absolutely huge.

A massive thank you to Sally Lockey, Beth Prior, Lizzy Hewitt, Annabel Weeden, all the volunteers, and the wider Right Up Our Street team for the trust they continue to place in me and my work, but above all for the huge amount of work they put in behind the scenes to bring ambitious, world-class art and creative experiences to Doncaster. ❤️

And a special thank you to Ava Lockey, who stepped in and helped photograph some of the portrait sessions I couldn’t cover myself. I’m so grateful for her help in making sure even more faces from across Doncaster became part of this project. 📸🙌

After weeks of photographing hundreds of people across Doncaster, the final landing is here.

It’s been an absolute privilege to be part of this incredible project, first photographing the people behind We Are Donny, and then filming this unique installation as it came to life.
