Sad to say but the lovely countryside around Towton is still as it was in March 29th 1461, when 28,000 men died in one day, at the Battle of Towton. The lone tree was where the Yorkist under Edward IV appeared and confronted the Lancastrian enemy to decide who would be king of England.
