I recently shot a Charity for a friends of mine and have just sent the images across to her for her "approval". Needless to say it was a great night and captured some "interesting" images.

I recently shot a Charity ball for a client of mine and have sent the images for her approval. So fingers crossed the images will be uploaded tomorrow.

It was a GREAT night in aid of Mind at the Easterbrook Hall with over £17,000 raised.

They say 3 is the magic number, and that is true for composition of an image. Whether that is a person, or a scene, one of the rules that is often used is the rule of thirds.

That is where the image is divided onto 9 equal boxes with the subject falling onto one of these imaginary lines from either left to right, or top to bottom. This also allows an pleasing image.

In the image below, I have used the 3 doors as part of the "imaginary lines" to make this image a little more pleasing. Having the doors surrounded by the brick building, as well as the ground, enforces that belief that there are 3 separate levels involved.

After speaking to a last night, today was spent finalising plans for the after the ceremony. Even though my shooting time has been limited due to my work, it was a nice afternoon spent at the , managed by The Crichton

And it was a glorious afternoon walking among the flowers and getting some time away from screens, which helped my . My primary reason was to figure out which way the sun would be shining, which would enable me to capture the best photos for them. Plus it also gave me an to try out my new camera.

One of the things my new Nikon Z fc can do, is shoot in square format. This then gave me an idea to create an image like the one below. This is called a Triptych.

Essentially, 3 separate images are combined to make 1 larger image, with the resulting image creating a panoramic view. Needless to say the couple have EVERYTHING crossed for a sunny day next month.

My has taken a back seat lately due to my continuing training, needless to say things have been quite for me since the start to the year.

Even so, with spring around the corner (and the allegedly better weather) there will be plenty of time for some fabulous outdoor opportunities.

After taking the last part of 2024 to take stock of where I am, it has also allowed me to invest in myself and develop further.

First up, I have been successful in becoming a Kampfire certified , here in the UK. What does that mean? Well, when shooting I am now able to upload the images to an hashtag website so you can access a PERSONAL moment of the night. (more on that soon)

Second, I am also now a "paparazzi" photographer. That is where I attend your event, document people coming in for a period of time (usually 1 hr) and you get all the images. (more to follow)

Thirdly, been taking a look back at some previous images that I shot and started to re-edit them. It's always interesting looking back and seeing images that I discarded in a better light some time after the event.

Finally, began my journey to a Level 2 field hockey coach with England and Great Britain Hockey and Scottish Hockey. Being in a remote part of Scotland (for hockey clubs) this will elevate Dumfries Hockey Club to the next level and the grow the sport locally.
