I enjoy both attending events to build my network and photographing events. I can provide posed images of your event but I prefer the candid shots taken standing in the corner with a fast zoom lens capturing fleeting moments and not getting in the way. If you want an event photographer to observe not intrude on your event then do get in touch. I am based in Dundee but with advance notice I can cover events in Aberdeen, St Andrews or Edinburgh.

Your headshot is the most important photograph you will ever post on LinkedIn so its vital that it gives a great first impression of you. I love to help people make a great first impression. I don’t have a studio or fancy lighting but I think I make up for it with people skills making my subject feel at ease. I believe a well lit simple photo that captures your character and best qualities is more useful than a dramatically lit photo of someone looking uncomfortable. It's important to have great images of yourself to give your website and social media posts your personal touch.

One of my friends takes Halloween very seriously.
This year’s creation with about 70 pumpkins a mixture of real that had to be carved and plastic ones that can be used again. Plus a smoke belching pumpkin and spooky projections on the windows.
I did help tidy up afterwards.

A dramatic sight last night as the full moon illuminated the smoke from a fire at the Riverside Recycling Centre in Dundee on Friday the 5th of September. The fire was reported on Thursday 4th of September just before 5 pm. Three fire appliances attended and they worked through the night but it is still burning.

I never thought about garden and kitchen waste being a fuel source but as you can see after a mostly warm and dry summer they clearly are. From Google maps the waste are arranged in long rows and it hard to tell how many have ignited. These giant compost heaps are surrounded by trees. The recycling centre is closed for the weekend as it is only 100 metres away.

Riverside Avenue was closed last night to traffic but the pedestrian entrance to Riverside Park was still open near Invergowrie. I took this footage from the viewpoint in Riverside Park about 120 metres from the edge of the recycling centre. The fire is about 200 metres from the end of Dundee Airport runway but according to Flight tracker all the flights left on Friday though none are scheduled for Saturday. Thankfully the fire is over 500 metres from numerous warehouses.

So no property is in immediate danger, the main issue is air quality for homes and businesses downwind of the fire and I imagine outdoor sports will be cancelled nearby. Hopefully the fire can be extinguished soon before it harms our health.

Some enhanced phone footage of the flash flooding in Dundee on Thursday 14th of August 2025. I was dry at home but my eldest was in Dundee opposite the Overgate so I had two images and some video to upscale.
First came the hail and then the torrential rain. You can see the difference in the size of the "Nethergate Burn" from 3.42 pm to 3.59 pm.

There was flooding at the Overgate shopping centre with some shops closed on Friday morning.

The most scenic bus ride from Dundee?
A few photos and an update on Ember's new Dundee – Braemar – Aberdeen route.

This route started on Wednesday 23rd of July with one express bus running from Dundee to Aberdeen via Braemar in the morning and returning to Dundee in the afternoon.

Dundee 8.13 am - Braemar 9.54 am
Braemar 4.39 pm - Dundee 6.21 pm

A bit of news
- This route isn’t just for the summer
- There will be more buses on this route.
- There will be more stops currently Blairgowrie, Braemar, Banchory and Aberdeen Airport

So great news for hikers and skiers (as the Glenshee ski centre is on the route). Not to mention those visiting Dundee who don't have car.

A few photos through the windscreen from my bus last Friday, I went as far as Braemar where the heather was in bloom.

A bit of dramatic footage of the train that caught fire on its way to Dundee this morning. No injuries but a lot of distruption as trains couldn't cross the Tay Rail Bridge in either direction.

It should have arrived in Dundee at 10.40 AM but a fire broke out, the passengers were moved to the rear carriages. Thankfully the train made it across the bridge where the Scottish Fire Services extinguished the blaze beside Riverside Drive.

I got a closer view than I would have liked when my train stopped beside it on the way into Dundee Railway Station.

A few photos of the damage caused by Storm Éowyn in Dundee
All of these photos were taken on Saturday 25th of January when the storm had passed.

1 – Homes on the Perth Road had a near miss when this tree fell across two front gardens. Fortunately it just blocked this garden path.

2 – Sand from the Urban beach at Waterfront Place overtopped the benches and spread along Blackwatch Parade.

3 - This bin in Seabraes Garden near the Lemming Statues was attached to the ground.

4 – Tayside Fire Brigade assisting with a roof inspection at Goulay Yard

5 – This fallen tree on Bell Street near Abertay University had been removed with the stump remaining

6 – The top of the tree bent the scaffolding across the road

7 – One section of graffiti covered hoarding near the Seabraes Bridge was toppled by the wind.

8 – A couple of the bins at the car parks beside Riverside Drive were pushed over by the storm thankfully they didn’t end up on the road.

9 - One of the barriers to the car park beside Dundee Airport was broken

10 – This external door to some flats on the Perth Road was broken, I presume by the wind.

11 – All Scotrail services were cancelled on Friday and not many were travelling on Saturday morning to allow all the track to be inspected for debris.

Merry Christmas and all the best for 2025 to all my followers.

This years digital Christmas cards were a "Christmas time capsule"* with wintry images from the winter of 2010 when it snowed at the end of November and it stayed until the beginning of January.

I think most people got the first one as it was my favourite.

Storm Ashley 20th October 2024.
The flood gates were closed as high tide at 5.32 PM was 5.7 metres with 50 MPH gusts forecast. There wasn't much overtopping. But by 7.00 PM the tide had dropped to 5.0 metres but the wind had increased to 60 MPH so there were bigger waves and a lot of overtopping but there was no significant flooding of the waterfront path while I was there.

Certainly some dramatic sights around Dundee. Hopefully there was no damage.

FINALLY!!
I was rather tired last night after a day of picking apples but around 10 PM I decided to check the aurora forecast it was in the red (very high) so I had a look in the back garden it was partially cloudy but there was some brightness. I took a long exposure there was definitely colour.

I could have gone to bed, but I didn’t.

Instead I gathered up some camera gear and walked to a path that connects Invergowrie to the James Hutton Institute and set up my tripod in a dark spot between two lamp posts facing north across the fields. Unfortunately it was rather cloudy but there were patches of colour in sky especially higher up. I hadn’t dressed as warmly as I should and I was getting cold

I could have gone to bed, but I didn’t.

Instead I decided to head to a favourite spot for sunrises by Invergowrie Bay. My camera was facing south east NOT north but the sky was clearer. I was very lucky as this was the peak of the solar activity for the whole night so there were fingers of colour overhead reaching towards the southern horizon.

Then I did go to bed.

All photos 4 seconds, F 4, ISO 4000 first setting I tried that worked so I kept it.

Please note I could see brightness in the sky but not the colour the camera detected.

𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗻𝘄𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗼𝘄𝗿𝗶𝗲
Hopefully everyone has a safe journey home and there isn't too much damage.

There was a thunderstorm warning today in Tayside, we only heard one clap of thunder before 3 PM but we certainly got the rain with streets turning into streams and one junction flooding as it is one of the lowest points of the village.

Thankfully nothing like the flooding the area experienced after Storm Babet in October 2023 when there was a red warning for rain but still a dramatic sight after less than an hour of rain.

A rather hectic day of networking yesterday.
It started at 8 AM at Perth Concert Hall for the excellent Tayside Transform Business Festival. A mixture of presentations, networking events, fireside chats and more networking

Presentations
Prof Sir Jonathan Van-Tam took us behind the scenes during the COVID pandemic and showed us we may not get the politicians we deserve but thankfully there are some truly selfless civil servants working for the greater good. One story of note, he used to polish the shoes of everyone in his team to show even though he was their leader they were equals nevertheless.

Jamie Grant – told us his top ten tips for building a great team for their coffee roasting business

Michelle Maddox shared an emotional tale about her Clootie dumplings (AKA plum puddings in England) from working all night with her family before a farmers market, to providing 10 Downing Street and breaking into the USA market.

Professor Gary McEwan provided his insights about learning from your mistakes but not making that the only way you learn.

I also attended some fascinated fire side chats about how to use video game technology and the implications of AI.

Networking
There were two organised networking events: which biscuit best describes your business? It ever asked a Caramel Wafer is good answer, as it has layers, not my idea credit in comments.
Another networking game was Chinese whispers where six people would stand in a line and the first would tell the second person a brief elevator pitch and it would be passed down the line some pitches got rather garbled along the way.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗽𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼 𝟮
The event finished at 4 PM but my day was not over as I headed back to Dundee to attend the inaugural Tayside Women in Property event at 6PM.

Where Robin Presswood told us about future redevelopment in Dundee and Rebecca Wade shared some reflections from her Antarctic voyage with Homeward Bound Projects. Yes there were photos of icebergs, whales and penguins. More networking over drinks and nibbles.

I didn't think it was that windy today, but a gust of wind from the east brought down a tree across the Errol Road on the border between the villages of Invergowrie and Kingoodie. I hope the house on the right side of the road is far enough back that it wasn't damaged.

Thankfully it was during the day as its on a blind corner so on a wet night it would have been very dangerous driving through the side branches, the trunk is about 6 feet above the roadway.
I arrived at the same time as the tree surgeons so hopefully it won't be too long before the road can reopen.
