The complete opposite of The Little Mermaid 🧜♀️🌊 Forget the fairy tale—this Scottish legend had absolutely no interest in a prince or walking on two legs. She just wanted her tail back to escape to the sea.

Centuries ago in the coastal village of Balintore, a local fisherman spotted a beautiful sea-maid bathing on the rocks of Clach Dubh. While she was distracted, he stole her magical tail and hid it away, trapping her on land and forcing her to become his wife.
For years, she lived a human life. She bore his children and loved them deeply, but she never truly assimilated into our world. Every single day, she stood by the shore, staring at the wild waves, aching for home.
Then, one afternoon while the fisherman was out at sea, her children accidentally discovered the hidden tail. Without a single moment of hesitation, she reclaimed her true form, swept down across the rocks to the water's edge, and plunged back into the cold depths.
She never returned to the land—but proving her heart wasn't entirely cold, she still swam to the shoreline to leave fresh fish on the tables of her hungry children, granting her descendants safety and good fortune at sea for generations.
Today, Steve Hayward's stunning 10-foot bronze sculpture stands on the rocks, a beautiful but gritty reminder of an untameable spirit that belonged only to the ocean.
