🚨 Aurora alert!!!! 🚨

Strong aurora underway here in the northern hemisphere. Unfortunately bad weather here in the UK may hamper chances for people to see it but if you get a gap in the clouds in a northern direction it’s well worth your time trying to see this amazing sight.

Use pro settings on your phone camera and move your exposure timer above 3 seconds or more

I hope you all got a safe glimpse of the partial solar eclipse this morning.

It’s been a while since my last post here but here I am. C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–ATLAS), taken from Tow Law shortly after sunset. You have to be quick for this one as you only have around 3 hours or less before it drops below the horizon in the west. You’ll need your best binoculars.

Comet 12/P Pons-Brooks last night. If you want to see this one from the UK you have to be quick as it's getting lower each night and will soon disappear below the horizon near the end of April. After that you'll have to get on a plane or wait 71 years. See the link below for how to observe Pons-Brooks.

The return to the winter months means the return of Orion the hunter here in the northern hemisphere. Each night it chases the Pleiades across our night sky in a scene that is told by many ancient cultures. It is certainly one of my favourite constellations, home to the Orion Nebula and other fascinating objects.

Lots of sightings of rare nacreous clouds over the uk this morning and evening. Also known as mother of pearl clouds, they form between 70000 and 100000 feet and only form in temperatures under -78 degrees C.
