A little trip out to Raby Castle today. Lovely seeing these beautiful creatures. Each image was taken from a distance. In the first, one of the deer wanted to see what was going on, peeking from behind a tree. The second photo isn't as sharp as it could have been, but I like to capture a sense of the natural behaviour of the deer and how they move. The third, another attempt at capturing a deer on the move.

A blustery day at Cleadon. Black and white seemed to fit the mood.

The Tall Ships are back in the region, in Hartlepool. I'm hoping to go along to see them. I thought you might like to see a photo I took in 2016, when they were in Blyth, and setting off on the next leg of the race.

Summer solstice, part two. Light is so important in photography. The intensity, direction, quality. Photographers will often talk about the golden hour or the blue hour. The golden hour is the time shortly after sunrise or before sunset. The blue hour is the other way around. It is shortly before before the sun rises over the horizon, or shortly after the sun has gone down in the evening. All of these factors can create totally different moods. This photo, same morning, same place, slightly different time and direction of the sun relative to the subject. I love the calm, minimalist feel of this photo.
Love photography? Why not take pictures of your favourite places at different times and see the how they vary. Happy snapping.

Summer solstice today, the longest day. Who got out to see the sunrise. I had a very early start and was at Roker beach by 4am. Even managed to dip in the water. For the first time I witnessed the sun start climbing above the horizon. The sky was magical. Hopefully my photos have captured better than my words can portray.
