Every year, Hadley comes back to update his headshots, and every year, somewhere along the way, we end up laughing. 😂

This time, I told him I was going to record a little bit of video -he was ready, I was ready...

Except I forgot to press record. 🤦♀️

So what you’re actually seeing is the laughter that happened when we realised we had to do it all over again.

Et voila… that final headshot. 🤍

A brilliant new portrait as part of a set for Hadley to take into another year of castings, auditions and new adventures.

Their first birthday is a milestone for you, too. 💛

We spend so much of that first year doing things *for* our babies; taking the photographs. planning the days, remembering all the little firsts and then suddenly... they're one.

The funny thing is, they won't remember this chapter - but you will and one day, they'll look back at the photographs and see something they couldn't possibly have remembered for themselves - they'll see you.

The way you held them, the way they looked at you, the family you were when they were tiny and they'll see just how loved and wanted they were.

It's one of the reasons I created my **First Birthday Portrait Experience**.

It's a little bit of time in an otherwise very busy life to put everything else down and simply be together to celebrate your little one exactly as they are right now. The cheeky grin, the serious face, their favourite toy and that wonderful personality that's suddenly appearing in full technicolour.

International Dog Day 🐾🤍

Today is a celebration of dogs, not just for the joy they bring, but for the countless ways they change our lives.

🐾The greeting at the door after a difficult day.

🐾The companion who never lets you walk alone.

🐾The comforting presence curled up beside you when words aren't enough.

🐾The one who somehow knows exactly when you need them most.

Dogs have a remarkable way of making life's ordinary moments feel richer; they teach us about loyalty, forgiveness, enthusiasm and living fully in the present.

They are a best friend, a source of confidence and courage and most importantly they are family..

Today is a reminder to celebrate the muddy paws, the favourite toys, the funny habits, the soulful eyes and the unconditional love that asks for nothing more than our presence in return.

To every dog who has made a house feel like home, thank you.

I love technology, always have!

Watching it evolve has been fascinating, especially when my brother and I finally managed to watch old family film that had been sitting on a format we couldn't play anymore. Seeing ourselves as little children after all these years was incredibly special.

It also got me thinking; how many ways have we stored our memories over the years?

💾Floppy disks

💿CDs

📀DVDs

🖱️USB sticks

☁️Cloud storage

Every generation has brought something that felt revolutionary at the time, then, quietly, it became obsolete. The photographs are still there, the technology to access them yhas long since gone.

There is something wonderfully reassuring about printed artwork - an album doesn't need updating, a treasure box of prints doesn't become incompatible with the latest computer and you don't need to try and remember a password!

They are always there waiting to be picked up, opened, shared and enjoyed and become another member of your family bringing joy even time to see them.

Technology will continue to change. I rather hope it does because the geek in me loves seeing what comes next.

The one thing I don't think will ever go out of date is the feelings that come flooding back everytime you look at your artwork, this isn't just tangible this is a feeling.

That is something worth investing in 🤍

Sometimes it's the simplest moments that stay with you. 💛
One little boy came to see me for his first birthday, and he arrived with his favourite building blocks.

He'd carefully build a tower, sit back looking incredibly proud of himself, then promptly knock the whole thing over and start again. 🤣

Over and over but his face was priceless when they toppled; mummy and daddy laughed because it was so him.

That's the beauty of photographing one-year-olds, it's not about asking them to smile for the camera.

It's about giving them the freedom to do the things they love, so the photographs truly feel like them.

The joy on his face every time the blocks came tumbling down still makes me smile.
We also created beautiful portraits with Mum, Dad and all three of them together; while I photographed their little boy, they had something parents rarely get - the chance to simply watch, be present and to enjoy the moment without trying to capture it themselves.

I bet you’re the same, one parent is always behind the camera or you're both trying to stop a wriggly toddler disappearing out of shot!

One is such a special birthday, not only because they're turning one, there's so much more it's also about everything that came before it.
🙂The first smile.
😆The first giggle.
🫄The first time they rolled over.
👋The first little wave.
👣The first wobbly steps.
Somewhere along the way, your tiny newborn became this funny, determined and curious little person with a personality that's completely and utterly them.

Do you ever think 'wow' all that happened in what feels like the blink of an eye? When we photograph a first birthday, we're not just celebrating the day it’s the incredible journey that got you there.

Little ones don't perform on cue and I don't expect them to. 💛
Think about it from their point of view, they've arrived somewhere completely new and they’re just waking up from the car, suddenly they’ve got a stranger smiling at them with a camera.
It would be a lot to ask anyone to instantly relax!
Your actual portrait session is around 30 minutes, but I always allow plenty of extra time for settling in and checking me out and to decide that I'm actually quite fun to spend time with.
Boom the magic happens and the cheeky smiles appear with those curious expressions and let’s not forget their determined little faces that make you laugh every day.
This is just your baby feeling safe enough to be themselves.
That's what I want you to remember when you look back at your artwork years from now.

Friendship doesn’t always arrive loudly.

Sometimes it grows slowly in shared seasons, in showing up without being asked,
in knowing when to speak and when to simply sit beside someone.

It can look like laughter that needs no explanation.
Or silence that feels safe.
Or the kind of bond that carries you through chapters you never expected to face.

On International Friendship Day, it feels worth pausing to honour the people who have chosen us and whom we’ve chosen back not because life was easy, but because it was real.

The friends who know who you are beneath the roles you play. Who remember past versions of you with kindness, who hold space for who you’re becoming.

✨ Friendship is one of life’s quiet constants and one of its greatest gifts.

Sometimes the biggest question isn't "Do I want this?"
It's:-
"What's it actually like?"
Well the answer is... relaxed.

Although your session is around 30 minutes, I always allow longer because little ones don't work to a timetable and who wants that – boring 🤣

Some race straight in and start exploring.
Some need a cuddle.
Some like to sit quietly and take everything in first.

All of those are completely normal, there's no rush and absolutely no pressure.

Before you arrive, we'll have already chatted about your baby, their favourite toys, the things that make them laugh and those expressions that make you smile every day.

During your Photography Experience, we simply let them be themselves. Whether they're full of giggles, quietly curious or giving me that wonderfully determined look that one-year-olds seem to perfect, those are the moments we'll capture.

Because the best portraits aren't about asking children to perform, they're about giving them the space to simply be who they are.
