Wondering what to wear for your newborn session?

My advice is always to keep things simple.

Soft, neutral colours photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby and your connection with them.

Think cream, oatmeal, pale grey, soft pinks or blues.

Avoid large logos, bold patterns and very bright colours, which can distract from the people in the photograph.

Most importantly, choose something comfortable that you feel like yourself in.

One of the loveliest things about photographing older babies is how much personality they bring to the session.

Some are full of smiles. Others are endlessly curious.

Some take a little while to warm up. And some spend most of the session giving me the most serious expressions!

There’s no right way for your baby to be in front of the camera.

My aim is simply to capture them as they are at this stage….their expressions, their personality and all of the little things you’ll want to remember 🤍

When you arrive for your newborn session, everything will be ready for you.

The studio will be warm.

The blankets and wraps will be laid out.

And everything we need for your baby’s photographs will be close at hand.

You don’t need to arrive knowing what to do or how the session will unfold. I’ll guide you through each stage and work around whatever your baby needs on the day.

All you need to do is arrive, settle in and enjoy watching your baby being photographed 🤍

One of the things that makes newborn photography so special is just how much variety we can capture from one tiny baby.

The sleepy, curled-up photographs.

The tiny details.

The way they fit into your arms.

The love between parents and baby.

Every gallery tells a much bigger story than just what your baby looked like.

It captures their personality, your connection, and all of the details that made those first few weeks so special.

And because every baby is different, no two sessions ever feel quite the same 🤍

Outdoor session season is in full swing, and if you’ve booked a session (or are thinking about it), you might be wondering… what should we wear?

A few things to keep in mind:

Keep it simple - Avoid busy patterns, logos, or neon colours that can distract from the natural setting.

Think coordinated, not matching - Choose a palette of 2-3 complementary colours for the whole family.

Comfort is key - I’ll be asking you to move around, stand and sit down, so opt for outfits that allow you to move and feel at ease.

If you're wondering when the best time is to have your baby photographed during their first year, here are the ages I recommend to my clients….

❤ 5–14 days - The classic newborn stage, capturing your baby at their smallest, before they start to become more awake and alert.

❤ 3–5 months - A lovely in-between stage. Babies are more alert, starting to enjoy tummy time, and their personality is beginning to shine through.

❤ 6–10 months – One of the most joyful stages to photograph. Babies can sit confidently and love to engage with the camera, but aren’t yet on the move!

❤ 11–13 months – The perfect time to celebrate their first birthday. Some are even taking their first wobbly steps!

Each of these stages offers something unique.

If your baby is approaching one of these milestones, now is a great time to plan ahead.

Although I spend most of my sessions in the studio, outdoor sessions are always a huge highlight of the year.

I photographed this lovely family earlier this summer.

Their little girl was pure joy to have in front of the camera - full of personality and the most gorgeous smiles!

I know that lots of parents worry about how their little ones will handle a photo shoot - will they sit still? Will they cooperate? What if they’re not in the mood?

That’s exactly why mini sessions work so well. In just 20 minutes, we capture a beautiful variety of images without little people getting fed up or restless. No long sessions and no pressure.

If your baby is due later this year, now is the time to plan ahead.

I know how many decisions you’re juggling before your baby arrives. But one thing I always encourage you to do early is book their newborn session.

Here’s why….

The best time for a newborn session is when your baby is 5-14 days old. And….

I only take a small number of bookings each month….

This means I can be flexible around each baby’s arrival - whether they’re early, late or right on time.

Once you’ve booked your spot is guaranteed, even if we don’t know the exact date your baby will arrive yet.

Once you’re booked in, we’ll stay in touch and when the time comes, we’ll schedule the date to make sure it falls into the 5-14 day window.
