Full frame or not full frame? That is the question.
A little experiment! Having been a Nikon shooter for many years, 2 years ago I moved over to OM Systems and Micro 4/3rds. However being from the days of film I kept my Nikon F5 and 3 lenses - 20 f1.8G, 50mm f1.4G and the 180mm f2.8 D. I thought what a waste of 3 good lens to only use them when shooting film, so after much thought I have got my hands on a nearly new Nikon D780. By nearly new I mean a shutter count of 104. After updating the software I thought I'd test it by using the 50mm and against my OM-1 Mi with the OM 25mm f1.2 Pro lens.
The two shots here are taken from the same place and pretty much the same settings - the first which is the 50mm on the D780 was taken at 4,000th @ f1.4 ISO. 125, the second is taken using the OM-1 with the 25mm f1.2 with a shutter speed of 4,000th f.1.2 and ISO 200.
The only work done on the images was reduce them for Facebook no other post work has been done to the original RAW files. The Nikon file is FF at 6048 x 4024 and the Micro 4/3rds is 5184 x 3888 - both files were reduced in proportion for Facebook using 2048 along the longest edge.
What did I learn? Not enough for me to start reinvesting in additional F Mount lenses but I did notice the background blur of the f1.4 vs the f1.2 and the f1.2 is a bit wider than the Nikon 50mm.
