Angus' Dream

This series of images is quite an emotional showcase for me, let me give you all some context. Thank you in advance to all who read the whole thing 🤍

"Red’s Dream" is a short film by Pixar from 1987, depicting a lonely unicycle named Red in a bike shop. Red dreams of performing in a circus, only to wake up and return to his sad reality, hoping for a better future.

About 10 years ago I received my first guitar for Christmas. That guitar is what made me fall in love with music, so much so that all my dreams were pinned on making it in the music industry. Since then I've bought and received a few acoustic/electric guitars. I studied music in school and took a college course in 2019 for Music Business with Music Technology. In the first term of my college course I unfortunately received a harsh and extremely demotivating report from the lecturer, which completely turned me away from music as a career. I've since moved away from home (left my beloved guitars behind and sold some of my childhood ones) and back, and have fell out of love with music.

The guitar featured in this project was my Epiphone SG, similar to the guitar of Angus Young from AC/DC – who is often pictured playing a cherry red Gibson SG. AC/DC has been one of my favourite bands since I was young, and their songs are my favourite to play on guitar. I've always wanted a cherry red SG, so you can imagine the joy when I got this one. I named it Angus.

The title of this project is Angus' Dream, in which I recreated key stills from the Pixar short. The story behind this series follows Angus' dream of becoming a rock star on stage with me, before realising he is merely just dreaming and the fact is that he remains forgotten about in storage, waiting for the day he will be played again.

For my Photo: Constructed module at uni I have decided to create a 10 image project based on what happens after death - specifically within Christianity, Catholic Church, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism, as well as recent scientific discoveries and what happens to animals.

The title of this project is After Death.

The aim of my project is to get viewers thinking about and questioning their own beliefs about what comes after death. I want to spark curiosity about this topic.

My images are my own interpretation based on research done. I've made use of AI to create most of my backdrops and certain aspects within them.

This image is my interpretation of Barzakh based on Islam.

In Islam, after a person dies, their soul is taken by Azra'il - the Angel of Death. Allah sends two angels to question the soul and if the questions are answered correctly, the soul sleeps during Barzakh, which is a state of waiting until Yawn al-din, the Day of Judgement.

If a Muslim has performed more good deeds than bad, they will enter Jannah (Paradise), which is described as a "garden of everlasting bliss."

More from this series to come.

This image is my interpretation of torment based on Islam.

In Islam, after a person dies, their soul is taken by Azra'il - the Angel of Death. Allah sends two angels to question the soul and if the questions are answered correctly, the soul sleeps during Barzakh, which is a state of waiting until Yawn al-din, the Day of Judgement.

If a Muslim answers incorrectly to the angels, their soul is tormented by angels. If they have performed more bad deeds than good, they enter Jahannam (Hell). Jahannam is a place of scorching fire pits, boiling water, physical and spiritual suffering. Some Muslims do believe that souls in Jahannam can eventually enter Jannah (Paradise).

This image is my interpretation of hell based on Christian belief.

Hell came to be around the time that God’s angel, Lucifer, desired a power and position that could only belong to God himself. God had given his angels free will, so they could choose whether they would obey him. Lucifer chose to disobey God, which led God to throw Lucifer out of Heaven along with all the angels thatchose to follow Lucifer. Lucifer’s name then changed to Satan, which means “an adversary, one who resists.”

If humans choose to reject God, they will be sent to Hell, a place or state of torment and punishment for those who have done wrong. It is often depicted as a place of eternal fire that symbolises pain and suffering.

This image is my interpretation of heaven based on Christian belief.

Heaven is seen as an eternity in the presence of God. It is the ultimate aim for Christians for their soul to be reunited with God and Christ. Heaven can either be considered a physical
place or a symbolic place for some Christians. It is believed that those who believe in Christ and live good lives will be rewarded with eternal life in heaven.

This image represents a Christian walking the stairway to heaven, the gates guarded by two biblically accurate angels as I imagine them. They are described as "creatures with six wings covered in eyes".
