Most people drive straight past this place without realising the history hidden behind its walls.
Torphichen Preceptory was the Scottish headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller, a powerful medieval order whose influence stretched across Europe. It also has a connection to William Wallace, who held his last parliament here in 1298 before the Battle of Falkirk.
More than 800 years later, much of the building still survives, a fascinating site off the beaten path
