I arrived to this session with no ideas in mind. No expectations but to spend the next hour of my time with two people who want to spend forever together. I walked into this session like any other; cards stocked and camera ready to go. With ease, I pull the camera to
my eye and went through the motions of directing and then I just stopped. As I looked through my lens, these two people started to intertwine themselves without knowing. And I let them be consumed by it before they even realized it. They probably didn’t even think about the smaller moments I was capturing because they were naturally just focused on the big picture and that was to perform for the camera.
There was such beauty in this particular moment that I began to feel a narration to the images and that narration said something like this:
“Two people tangled amongst the crashing waves.
Embedded in silence except their beating hearts that played in sync, singing a song only they could hear.
No other soul in sight but watched by the sun as it said good night.
Shared sandy lips and a tender touch.
A core memory that now speaks so much.
The hymn of the sea draws them in and pulls their bodies close.
At peace because they know this feeling is for a lifetime.
And as the sun set and the water got colder, she lay her head on his shoulder.
They watched as the birds flew by and they dreamed of the many future evening skies, spent together. “
The curtains close and I dropped my camera from my eye. I saw the next 50 years of their life. Of their love. Of the moments they and only they will get to have with each other. And the documentation of that journey started that evening on the beach, with a random photographer who saw the unique narrative of their forever.
This is through the eyes of a story telling photographer who craves emotion and thinks about your future selves through your current photos and the stories you will get to tell and pass on.
This is such an emotional job for me and something I continually strive to get better at.
