Tuesday nights Aurora, at Burghead, Moray.

I`ve had the big camera back out a few times over the past week. These were also shot using a wide angle lens, which hasn`t seen much use over the years. I think it will be out a bit more now.πŸ™‚

Here are the last of the M50 shots I have sorted from up North.
I think the Hoverfly on the flower is probably the best of the whole lot.
The shot with the Sun shining through the storm clouds, was shot with the 400mm prime lens, as I had been watching for Dolphins of the coast at Portknockie, before the Sun started to set. Unfortunately none were spotted, but when I was heading back to the hotel, I saw this scene forming in the distance. Having only the 400mm prime lens, I used it to capture the main part of the light being cast by the low Sun through the cloud formation, producing the dramatic scene.πŸ™‚

The seals were spotted at Buckpool, a few miles along the coast from Portknockie. There were a few of them laying sleeping on the beach, but a pair of them decided to have a sparing competition in the water.πŸ˜„

Hope you have enjoyed viewing the latest shots.

Happy Sunday everyone!πŸ˜€

Here are a few more shots I captured, on the trip up North.
A selection of Sunset and Sunrise shots, taken at St Combs Beach and Cairnbulg Point.

These shots very nearly didnt happen at all.

When packing for this trip, I left my lens filters and holder at home, since I didnt have an adapter to use it with the light weight Canon M50 wide angle lens.

Within a day of being away, I quickly began to miss having the abiltity, to control the light entering the camera. However thanks to good old Amazon delivery, I got a cheap set of filters and a holder, delivered next day!πŸ˜…

I have used cheap filters in the past, which were awful. So I wasn`t expecting to have any shots using them, without having a colour cast, or some imperfections causing issues. But actually, they seemed ok and didn`t cause much of a problem with colour casts.

Even better though, the kit also included colourised filters of many different choices, as well as the standard graduated and non graduated neutral density filters, which I needed.
I ended up using one of the colourised filters, to help enhance the Sunset sky, at Cairnbulg Harbour, just to see how it would look. πŸ™‚

I Hope you enjoy this selection of photos.

A few more shots from a recent trip up north.
These were taken on the first night at St Combs beach, there was a lot of smoke in the air, from wild fires burning on Dava moor, which the wind was carrying out over the north east coast and out towards Shetland.
This added to the colours being cast by the setting sun.

The pebble tower shot was a spontaneous creation, taken literaly 2 seconds before my camera battery died. πŸ˜…

As promised, here are a few more shots from my recent trip away. Sticking with the bird theme for the most part here, with a few more shots, which were wrestled out of the less than ideal camera / lens setup I had.
Stationery or slow moving subjects were more suited to the M50 with my old 400mm prime lens attached.

There are better shots to follow over the next week or so..
Happy Sunday folksπŸ˜ƒ

I have been busy trying to sort through hundreds of shots from a recent holiday trip, along the North Aberdeenshire and Moray Coast.
I chose to take the lightweight Canon M50 with me, with the 15-45mm kit lens and an adapter to fit my lighter 400mm EF prime lens. This proved to be a decision, which I came to regret, as I struggled immensely with the focusing system, using this setup, to shoot fast moving subjects, especially birds. I became so frustrated with it, that at one point, I had considered just throwing the whole lot over a cliff.🀣
Another drawback of this older prime lens, is the inability to control contrast, during overcast bright sky conditions. So birds against bright white sky became another challenge. This is something which my newer lenses fair better at.
I persevered long enough to get a few shots which I was happy with, but over all, I was pretty disappointed, in both myself and the setup.
I am having to spend more time in post editing, to try to rescue some of the shots, and I have a lot more to go through. 😭

On a more positive note, I have now started using my full sized camera and the big lens again, so I will have a few shots from that to put up at some point too. πŸ˜ƒ

In the mean time, I will post more of these rescued shots and some of the better sunset / landscape shots I managed, over the coming weeks.

Hope you enjoy this small selection..
Have a lovely weekend everyone πŸ™‚

I have tried many times to find Puffins along the East coast and never been successful, until now... I found two of them amongst thousands of Razorbills, Guillemots, Fulmar and Gulls. It was litterally like finding a needle in a haystack.
Not the best of shots, but I`m over the moon just by managing to get them.😁

My first set of photo`s of the year..🀦
It has been a long time since I have been in the mindset to go out with the camera. And having tennis elbow has hindered me from using my main camera for a good few months.

However, I bought a lighter camera recently and have finally managed back out again. It doesnt really give me the control that I`m used to, but it has allowed me to take these shots over the past few weeks, whilst paired with a few of my lighter lenses, including a 400mm prime, which I havent used in a few years. One of the reasons being, that it`s closest focusing distance is 3.5 meters, which I rediscovered at Flanders Moss, as I tried to get close up shots of Lizards.πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ Needless to say these are now heavily cropped shots.
Most of these shots are just from my local area, with the exception of the trip to Flanders Moss Nature Reserve, near Stirling. With a stop at Loch Venachar, near Callander, to watch the Sun set.

Hope you all enjoy the long awaited shots.πŸ˜€
