First time hearing about Lough Derg, and I genuinely couldn't believe a place like this existed. Rising from the middle of the lake, Station Island looks like something out of a fantasy film, especially when viewed from above 🏰
I captured this scene yesterday evening as the setting sun painted the sky and water in incredible shades of gold and orange 🧡
Lough Derg, in County Donegal, is home to St. Patrick's Purgatory, one of Ireland's oldest pilgrimage sites. The island has welcomed pilgrims for centuries and remains one of the most unique and significant spiritual locations in the country. Surrounded entirely by water, its isolated setting makes it unlike anywhere else.
Flying above it at sunset, it was hard not to be amazed by the combination of history, landscape, and atmosphere.
Not a hidden gem to many, but definitely one to me.
Have you ever been? Lough Derg
