Blue skies SLAB 🫡 This year's display at RIAT will live long in the memory.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the tragic news that Major Maciej “SLAB” Krakowian, pilot of the Polish Air Force F-16 Tiger Demo Team, lost his life this afternoon during rehearsal for the Radom International Airshow.

Major “SLAB” was admired across Europe for his precision, professionalism, and passion for flight. Each display in the F-16 Fighting Falcon carried not just the roar of the jet, but the spirit of a true aviator who inspired all who looked to the skies.

Today, the aviation community mourns the loss of a pilot, a mentor, and a friend. His legacy will live on in every crowd moved by the sound of afterburner thunder and the sight of a Fighting Falcon carving through the heavens.

🕊️ Blue skies and eternal tailwinds, SLAB. You will never be forgotten. 🐅🇵🇱

With the news that my favourite Spitfire, BM597, is off to start a new chapter in Australia (along with RN201) here's a photo of the last time I saw her airborne back at Duxford.

Two days, two very different backdrops and two images I'm really pleased with. Nathan really put 344 through her paces at RIAT and produced some amazing displays, making clouds one day and rainbows the next!

Throwback to a rainy Saturday at RIAT and the phenomenal effort made to keep the show going by the pilots and ground crew. The F16 Viper Demo Team really pulled out all the stops for an epic display in less than ideal conditions, super low cloud base and poor vis.

Always love a fluffy F-18 shot and there were plenty of them at RIAT 24, it's a shame the skies were so grey as the special livery on this Canadian aircraft was standout.

Who doesn't love a Buccaneer? 😍 Had a really good time at 50th birthday bash for XX894, thoroughly enjoyed seeing 894 do her thing as well as exploring the Bristol Britannia and Boeing 747 onsite at Kemble in the afternoon.

Spitfire BM597 of Aerial Speed Icons Mark 5 Pty Ltd. (try saying that after a few too many!) at IWM Duxford. Now I know you shouldn't have favourites but this particular Spitfire has a special place in my heart.
In 2005, along with Hawker Hurricane P3700 (then Z5140,) she made the journey to Malta to take part in the Merlins Over Malta project, bringing a Spitfire and a Hurricane back to the island they helped save for the first time since the war. Even though I was young at the time I appreciated the momentous meaning behind the project and being stood amongst locals on the walls of the Grand Harbour when the pair of aircraft arrived at 18:00 on the dot was genuinely one of those deeply moving moments that will stay with me forever, there certainly weren't many dry eyes. The sound of those Merlins echoing around the walls of the harbour was like nothing I've ever heard before, it sounded like there were a whole squadron of them. I'd holidayed in Malta previously (and have done since) and fallen in love with the island anyway but this felt like more of a pilgrimage and I'm so pleased to have been present for such a moving and historical moment in both the island and the aircrafts' histories. While BM597 didn't take part in either the Battle of Britain or Flying Finale displays at IWM Duxford this year it's lovely to be able to pop into the hangar and see her up close.

I'll miss Moggy when she's done at the end of the season, she's been a pleasure to watch and photograph through the year. The display sequence itself has been beautiful this year as well, Turbo has been a master of his craft and shown off the Typhoon and all it can do really well. Thanks Turbo and Moggy, you've both been fab 🖤

One of the highlights of IWM Duxford's Battle of Britain show for me was the little P-47D Thunderbolt, "Nellie B" 🖤 She lives at Duxford under the ownership of Ultimate Fighters and hopefully will be around for a long time for us all to continue to enjoy.
