‘A sense of speed’

Over the whole weekend at Silverstone I had apparently been using my camera settings wrong, luckily my friend Ben was there to help me out by showing me some pointers on how to set things up to really capture that sense of how fast these cars were truly going, it also helped that the spot we got on Sunday to watch the feature races was quite possibly the best view we could have ever hoped for, right alongside the barriers at trackside, less than 20 metres between us and the edge of the track and as such, needless to say, the photos I got on Sunday were basically some of the best I got the entire weekend.

What we all came to Silverstone to see, the F1 cars finally hitting the track, shots were taken during the first practice session of the weekend looking across the turn at Luffield. Decided to just upload one photo of each car from each team instead of last year where i tried focusing on one team at a time and ended up giving up halfway through.

Second set of photos from day 1 of formula action at Silverstone, moving up from the F3 to the F2 race, it was hard to take the sheer amount of photos I took and whittle them down into smaller batches for uploads but I think I’ve done rather well at picking out my best ones. Started getting a little more aggresive with my editing and crop angles for these shots, try and add some sense of speed, the best shots were definitely taken on the last day so keep your eyes open for them.

Another mini collection of photos from the first proper day of Formula ranked track action at Silverstone, starting off with the F3 cars out screaming round the circuit, I didn’t take half as many shots as I thought I did but did get some I was quite happy with, including one driver (couldn’t catch the name) having a slight bit of engine trouble at Luffield.

Trying my hand at more promo style car photography while at Silverstone, this time with this interesting angle of the Porsche 911 RS, I keep attempting these ‘looking along the side’ kind of shots but trying to get the angle perfect isn’t as easy as I would like.

‘Blot out the sun’

Uploading a day or two late but here (finally) is my shot from the partial solar eclipse on Wednesday evening. I was a little nervous when we were driving to our viewing location as the cloud cover was rather heavy, however we seem to have got very lucky and got a few breaks in the clouds for just long enough to witness this amazing once-in-a-lifetime event. It took a lot of effort to get this shot as I didn’t have a low enough f-stop or fast enough shutter speed to really do it justice, so I resorted to holding my neutral density filter for another lens in front of my 600mm lens to achieve the necessary level of darkness, honestly I think the final result was beyond worth it.

‘Drunk flying’
——————————————————
The campsite arena at Silverstone Woodlands has fascinated me since my first visit, so many food and drink vendors dotted around including this adorable little Thatchers c***r stand, the balloons had little benches attatched underneath them so you could grab a drink and just swing life away enjoying the music and soaking up the evening sun.
