A little bit of branding work with The Flower Studio 🌷

I absolutely loved getting to photograph behind the scenes at their flower studio in Portchester precinct. There is sooo much that goes into creating what you eventually see as the finished bunch, and getting to capture the people, the process and all the little details behind it was such a lovely one.

And LOOK at the flowers!! They are ridiculously talented at what they do, so this is also your reminder to go and give a local small business some love 🤍

This is probably one of my favourite things about branding photography too. I don’t just want to take a nice photo of you smiling at the camera. I want to show what you actually do, what goes on behind the scenes, the details you probably don’t even notice anymore, and the person behind the business.

So, Hampshire small business owners… when was the last time you actually updated your branding photos? 👀

If the answer is “I can’t remember”, we should probably have a chat!

Turns out, there’s a little bit more to being a photographer than turning up with a camera 🤷‍♀️

By the time I actually get to your session, I’ve already checked the weather 500 times, planned around the light, thought about the location, and got a rough idea of what I want to create.

Then during the session my brain is doing approximately 87 things at once, while I’m also making weird noises at your dog or saying something ridiculous to make your child laugh!

And once you’ve gone home… I’m nowhere near finished!!

Whether it’s a family photoshoot, dog photography, one of my mini sessions, or an event, there is SO much that goes on behind the scenes that you won’t event have to think about!

You just turn up, enjoy yourselves, and let me worry about the rest.

PS. I have JUST released 6 September family sessions for £100 off! (that means they are only £125 for 15 digitals AND a print!) Message for the booking link!

If you’re looking for a Hampshire photographer for natural, relaxed photos without all the awkward posing, have a little nose at my sessions through the link in my bio 👀

Pickle’s turn on the feed 🤍

I spend so much time photographing other people’s dogs that I realised I don’t actually take my camera out for Pickle anywhere near enough.

So last week, that’s exactly what we did.

No big plan, no expecting her to sit perfectly and definitely no staying still for very long. Just letting her run around, explore and be herself while I photographed her as she actually is.

I think these might be some of my favourite photos I’ve ever taken of her.

And a little reminder that your dog doesn’t need to be perfectly trained or amazing at sitting still to have beautiful photos of them. In fact, I think a bit of chaos makes them even better.

August was BUSY busy and I somehow managed to fit about 4 months worth of life into one 😂

So many shoots, so many lovely people, so many dogs, so much editing, and quite a few big moments behind the scenes too!

A few August wins:

• got my new branding back and I am OBSESSED with it
• completely redesigned my whole website and it finally feels like me (take a look if you want 👀)
• shot my first ever wedding completely solo which still feels a bit mad to say (photos coming soon!)
• photographed bumps, birthdays, dogs, headshots, events, families and weddings
• actually made time for some fun stuff too, including the zoo, pizza and jazz nights and little days out
• and somehow learned to SWIM! Like properly swim. I started with basically no swimming skills at all and this month I ended up swimming in the sea at Alum Bay 😭

Looking back at all of these makes me realise how much has actually happened this month because while I was in it, I was mostly just thinking about the next shoot, the next edit, the next job, the next thing on the list.

Very very grateful for how busy August has been, and also very ready to see what September brings 📷🤍

Raw vs edited 📷

Sometimes the ‘right’ camera settings don’t actually give me a photo that looks finished straight out of camera.

When I’m shooting, I’m thinking about SO much more than whether the photo looks bright enough on the back of my camera. Shutter speeds need to be fast enough to freeze the moment, aperture affects how much is in focus, and putting my ISO too far can introduce loads of noise and grain. Then, there’s the light itself! If I expose purely to make someone face look perfect in camera, I could completely blow out a sky and lose all that detail forever!

So sometimes, I’ll intentionally take a darker image, because I know the information is there, and I can bring those shadows back up when I edit.

Other times, I’m balancing flash with ambient light, dealing with horrible mixed lighting, changing conditions, or subjects that don’t stop moving!

The RAW file isn’t supposed to be the finished photo, getting the shot is part one, editing all that information into the final image you receive, is everything else.

Swipe to see why I’ll never provide you with the RAW file, even if you ask for it! 📷🤍

Some of my favourite family photos are the ones where absolutely nobody is looking at me!

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll ALWAYS get the one where everyone is looking at the camera, because that’s the one grandparent want framed for the wall, but the ones I usually end up loving the most are the ones in between.

Your toddler trying to escape, someone laughing at something completely unrelated, the cuddles that weren’t prompted, your child looking up to you instead of at me, everyone walking, playing, messing around, and just actually spending time together.

So they might not be a ‘perfectly posed family photo’ but they seem pretty perfect to me 🤍

245 days married 🥂🤍

Heather and John got married back in December, but this weekend was all about celebrating with the people they love!!

The sunshine showed up, the ch*****ne was flowing, there was lots of laughter, some questionable dance moves, and just so much happiness! 🤍

It was such a gorgeous celebration The Town House, Alresford

Thank you Heather and John for having me be a little part of your celebration 🤍 Happy 245 days!

Everyone meet Cassie 🥹🐾

Honestly one of the easiest dogs I have EVER photographed, she was so so good for me and quite happily just did whatever we asked of her, as long as I had her ball in my hand!😂

And can we talk about how perfect she looks in this light??? The golden grass with her colouring was just PERFECT 🤌

I have sooo many favourites from this session, I genuinely struggled choosing which ones to post.

Milo understood the assignment, and then some! 🐾

This is exactly what I mean when I say your dog doesn’t need to be perfectly trained to have beautiful photos. Milo is a typical Cocker Spaniel, full of energy, constantly on the go, and very easily distracted, a yet, the photos speak for themselves!

We didn’t force anything, we didn’t expect him to sit still for very long, and we definitely didn’t aim for perfection, we just let him be himself and captured the moments as they happened.

If you’ve been putting off booking because you’re worried your dog won’t behave, this is your proof they don’t need to be!

I still have space for April sessions, drop me a message an we can get it booked in!

Not sure whether to go for a mini session or a full session? You’re honestly not the only one

They’re both there for different reasons and neither one is better, it just depends what you want from it

- Mini sessions are great if you want something quick and easy, just a simple way to update your photos without a big time commitment.
- Full sessions give you more time to settle into it, more flexibility, and a bit more space for everything to feel relaxed.

Most people end up choosing based on how much time they want and how many images they’re hoping for

If you’re not sure, just message me and I’ll help you figure out what makes the most sense for you

Pop me a message and let’s get you booked in!!
