A last minute trip out one evening last week resulted in the unexpected, I had popped out to see if I could see anything of a pair of local Barn owls that lived a short 5 minute drive away from home whilst setting up my camera on the tripod I noticed a pair of Kestrels going a little crazy bombing something just over the brow of a hill in the distance so of course I went to investigate.
Once I had walked the short distance along the footpath and had gotten to the top of the hill the kestrels had gone fairly quiet and were just perched up in a dead tree, it was after a short amount of time scanning the field that I noticed a moving bump almost out of sight and it wasn't until it lifted its head and turned to reveal its magnificent beak that I realized I was in the presence of an adult White tailed eagle feeding on something out of sight, most likely the result of something not being quick or wise enough to move out of the way of the machinery that had been used that day to cut the hay.
A little bit distant and a little bit out of sight but always great to see, a few images for the record and a few more next time of the bird in flight as it moved away to roost, and oddly this is the exact same spot that I had spotted my very first WTE about 4 or 5 years ago.
