Mirella Ricciardi’s visual storytelling and the power of her photography is breathtaking. She has captured the suspension of time and harmony with the rhythm of nature. The silhouette of a lone fisherman moving fluidly with the water in this series of pictures, taken in 1968 represent an ancient, sustainable way of life. They highlights human existence as a small part of a larger, majestic ecosystem rather than a dominant force over it. The “essence” of the unseen, evokes the quiet focus, silence, and spiritual gravity of the moment, allowing the viewer to feel the stillness of the water and the heartbeat of the morning. The harmony between human action, man and child, her daughter Marina and Shaibu Shakua is perfect. What photographic timing. 👌1968 Vanishing Africa Collection.

Continuing to create art into old age Mirella transforms accumulated life experience into profound wisdom, preserves her artistic vision , and redefines late-life productivity as a powerful act of personal and cultural storytelling. Even the great masters like Michelangelo famously produced defining works late in life, proving that artistic vision deepens when unburdened by the need to prove oneself. Celebrating the power of photography. Artist proof sold. Ed 1/8 available. Title: Sky-fall. Extra Large chromogenic print now available Genesis Imaging. African sky-scape Mount Kenya series 1974.

The things one finds in an Archive !! 55 years ago Mirella Ricciardi celebrated the publication of her seminal book Vanishing Africa and it was featured in LIFE Magazine. Coming across this installation at PHOTO LONDON of all the LIFE Covers by Alfredo Jaar, artist, architect, and filmmaker was fantastic, a full circle moment , titled ‘Searching for Africa in Life”, it was was so extraordinary. We found our copy!! African Elegance in LIFE . What a joy. How we are all connected is so amazing. I was inspired to share this collage in appreciation of my Photo London visit on behalf of Mirella my mother. Thank you to Maria and & Malek Sukkar for their warm invitation to celebrate the Teams endeavours, creating a wonderful space for Art and Photography. The arts are essential to all community. This authentic lost and found photographic archive full of untold visual stories resonates today more than ever. Here is why it matters. The archive provides primary evidence. It act as a collective memory, for the communities and families Mirella photographed. It is helping us trace roots and preserve traditions that might otherwise be forgotten. This story is about photography, and a woman with a huge vision leaving a legacy eventually for posterity. Thank you Mama for what you are leaving us. We celebrated and spoke up on your behalf to protect your vision as one of the greats and your voice. No one will take that away from you. Thank you Gus for your support. 🙏 .

So proud of my grandson Augustus aka Gus Dempsey this time last Friday he opened the Vienna screening. Thank you for such a heartfelt speech. Here is a short excerpt - ’Hello everyone, my name is Gus Dempsey. Mirella Ricciardi is my grandmother. In 2006, my mother Amina discovered a forgotten archive. What she found set her on a journey that has defined her mother, Mirella Ricciardi’s oeuvre, twenty years on, learning, preserving and protecting an extraordinary body of work, and ensuring that it will endure for future generations. In those twenty years, we have come to understand deeply what this work is, what it represents, and why it matters. Vienna Premiere “ MIRELLA Metro Kinokulturhaus
