Update
The great news is that the detached retina operation has been a complete success, but I won’t be fully back in action until around the beginning of October, and even then, I’ll need to limit what I do.
The hospital has said the retina will heal completely without any scar tissue. They won’t need to see me again until November, when I will be discharged. In a couple of weeks, once everything has settled down, I’ll need to go to the opticians for a check-up, as my prescription is likely to have changed. Until I have my new glasses, my vision still won’t be fully back to normal (or as normal as it ever will be for me!).
The not-so-great news is that, because I won’t be discharged from Ophthalmology until November, the consultant for my new hip isn’t prepared to do the operation until after that. This means the hip operation will now be December at the earliest.
So, although I expect to be back in October, I’ll be limited in what I can do. Standing for too long or walking too far is becoming increasingly painful, so I’ll need to take things carefully.
In short, I will be back, but with some limitations for now. Come 2027, hopefully, I shall be back in full action.
