**On Ancient Rocks & Ridges, Beinn Eighe, Torridon**

We headed up Liathach a week or so ago with a pal to explore the less-frequented top of Stuc a' Choire Dhuibh Bhig.

We set off in warm, humid and midgey conditions at the bottom, looking up hopefully to where the summits should have been, but alas they were covered in cold-looking mist.

We met some folks on the way up – all of us holding out hope the mist would clear so we could be rewarded with views down into the glen and of the adjacent peaks.

We reached our summit in the mist but thankfully held on to our hope, enjoying a sandwich and the silence as the mist moved around us.

Sure enough, we got lucky, and this fine view over to Beinn Eighe in partial sunlight was a prize well worth waiting for. What a cracking summit!

**A puddle of light by Ullapool**

Yes, we've had more nice bright spells between some super-heavy downpours over the past few days. When dropping off some calendars at the Ullapool Bookshop recently, I spotted the wee white hoose over the water, caught in a ray of sunshine and set against some very moody, rain-soaked mountains.

**Bright Sunshine and Heavy Squalls**

I snapped this on the way back from Inverewe this evening. The weather put on a rather elaborate production — dark clouds, heavy rain, a shaft of sunlight, and Port Henderson briefly caught in the spotlight.

The ship, apparently unaware it had been cast in a supporting role, carried calmly on across the horizon. Only in Wester Ross ☺ ❤

We made it! 🥾🎉 My wife and I took part in the Great Wilderness Challenge 25-mile event together and, between us, have managed to raise over £1,000 for the charities. ❤️

The rivers were full, the midges were being midges, the bogs were boggy and the weather was changeable — but the event was pure magic and so rewarding.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers who kept us fed and watered at all the checkpoints. 🙏🏼

Whichever route you took, well done to all the competitors! And for those who joined us on the 25-mile route, you might well remember this fine fellow at Checkpoint 2 (Shenavall bothy), also eyeing up a snack from a rowan tree! 🐮🌿😂

We have been super-moooooved (sorry!) by your generosity. A huge thank you to everyone who supported us. ❤️

With just a few days to go until the Great Wilderness Challenge, I’d like to say **THANK YOU SO, SO MUCH** for helping us exceed my target of £500.00. I’m so pleased and grateful for every pound received on-line and via the sponsor form❤️

The next target will be to tackle those 25 miles on the day! It looks like the weather will be quite wet, so that’ll help keep us cooler and wash the midges off 😂

Beautiful Beinn Airigh Charr and Loch Kernsary, near Poolewe. As we head into August, we're stepping up our training for the 25-mile Great Wilderness Challenge, and the nerves are definitely starting to kick in!

"Minch Lightning" – We're still being hit by an electrical storm in Gairloch. I quickly snapped this while looking over Port Henderson towards the Storr on the Isle of Skye. I should have a few more shots looking over Badachro too. No power outages (yet!), thankfully. Hoping everyone's OK.

Moody Mellon. Just after sunrise, the wind tugged at the surf while a fleeting band of gold glowed beneath stormy clouds at Mellon Udrigle .
