I’m not a huge fan of posts like this, but, I realised recently that I have never properly introduced myself on here. Over the past few years I have been focused on building a life around a camera, working across live music, events, portraits, commercial projects and storytelling content.

This post is a small look back at how that journey has taken shape. It has not always been straightforward, but every step has helped me understand what I want to build and where I want to build it.

If you have followed the work for a while, supported a project, booked a shoot or simply taken the time to engage with what I share, I genuinely appreciate it.

Still learning. Still building. Glad to be doing it here.

My first Hyrox weekend as a photographer.

Honestly… it was a lot. Fast paced, loud, emotional, inspiring and at times pretty overwhelming in the best possible way. I went into the weekend not fully knowing what to expect and came away feeling properly stretched creatively.

I was actually there primarily filming athletes from PACE, so photography became more of a secondary brief. But as soon as you step onto a competition floor like that, the instinct to start shooting properly kicks in.

Environments like Hyrox demand quick thinking. You are constantly adapting, reading situations, anticipating moments and solving problems in real time. It felt very similar to shooting live music, which is where a lot of my event experience comes from. That same energy, unpredictability and pressure to stay sharp.

What stood out most wasn’t just the competition itself, it was everything around it. The atmosphere, the support between athletes, the relief at the finish, the moments where people were completely spent but still finding a way to push on. That is where the real storytelling lives.

From a photography perspective I learnt a huge amount in a short space of time. About positioning, patience, trusting instinct and working with what is in front of you rather than chasing perfection.

Weekends like this remind me why I genuinely enjoy event work. Every venue is different. Every crowd is different. Every brief is a new puzzle to figure out.

Already looking forward to the next one and refining the approach again.

Save this if you shoot events or want to in future and, if you have shot Hyrox or similar events I would love to hear what you found most challenging or most rewarding 👇

What a day.

Inverness really showed up. The weather was unbelievable and the support from the crowd the whole way round was class. People standing out in their gardens cheering runners on, kids holding homemade signs, music playing along the route, people dancing and shouting encouragement to complete strangers. It genuinely keeps you going when the miles start to add up.

I saw loads of familiar faces along the way as well, some running beside me and some shouting support from the sidelines. It’s a good reminder of how strong the community can be up here.

Big shout out to Connor. We started the race together and got the first 6/7 kilometres under the belt side by side, which made the start of the run a lot more enjoyable. Also kept me from gassing myself out!
Also, Erin & fam for bringing the support

I wasn’t (suppose to be) chasing a time, just wanted to get round and experience it. I had a couple of small niggles going into it so I wasn’t totally sure how the body would hold up, but thankfully they never really showed themselves and I managed to put together a run I’m really proud of.

Massive thank you to the organisers and the 300+ volunteers who make a day like this happen. Events like this don’t run without them!

Just a brilliant day to be out running in the Highlands.

Recent camera roll 🎞️

I didn’t start 2026 the way I thought I would.

I had it in my head that I’d spend more time properly documenting my own life. Filming things with a bit more care. Letting moments exist instead of rushing past them. What I didn’t expect was how uncomfortable it can feel to turn the camera on yourself, or how quickly excuses start to creep in.

I spend a lot of time talking myself out of it. Wondering who it’s for. If anyone cares. What the point is. Lately I’ve realised those are the wrong questions entirely.

No one watches an old home video and questions why it was filmed. It just exists. It becomes a time capsule. A feeling. Proof that a moment happened.

Documenting yourself now feels like the modern version of that. It doesn’t need to be impressive. It doesn’t need an audience. It doesn’t even need a reason. It’s just a quiet way of saying, I was here.

Less thinking, less overcomplicating. Just picking up the camera and letting things unfold as they are. For me first. The rest can figure itself out later.

West is most definitely best.

It’s been a minute since I’ve taken the camera out just to chase the road. No pressure, no client brief, no deadline. Just the Highlands, and a bit of winter light.

Back when I first picked up a camera, I’d spend every spare hour driving around places like this. Up and down glens, through single-track roads, chasing the last bit of light or waiting for the clouds to break. Bealach na Bà was always one of those places that pulled me in. There’s something about the silence, the scale, the sheer drama of the landscape that resets your head. Even when it’s wild up there, it’s grounding.

I’ve not done enough of that this year. Somewhere along the line, the camera became work. And don’t get me wrong, I’m lucky to call this a job. But it’s easy to forget why I started in the first place.

So this was a bit of a reset. No plan. Just a quiet road, good company, and a reminder of what this thing’s always been about. I’m going into 2026 making space for more of these kinds of days. It does wonders for my mental and physical health, and the photos always end up being the ones I feel most connected to.
