Sometimes I like going back to my early work, many years back, when photographing couples, weddings, and whatnot for a living was only an idea - a distant mirage - so I photographed friends for fun. That brief idea became my profession.
Photography became therapy, a getaway for the problems I couldn’t solve at the time. Looking back, I can see how my photography and editing style have changed, and how everything has changed.
And sometimes I’m maybe too harsh on my old photos. All those imperfections I see now in hindsight. I re-edited these the way I would today, because I thought they deserved it.
The morning was gloomy. Very gloomy on that day. Magdalena and Remigiusz. We drove in my 30-year-old, square Volvo brick up to Dukes Pass. It’s a very twisty road from Aberfoyle, and we almost got carsick. My lens fogged up, and I couldn’t focus properly. The sun came out later in the day so that we could wander in the forest a little longer. It was a good time.
Despite all the flaws I see now in my early days, it was a good journey. Fun. A little bit goofy. Humble beginnings: photographing all my friends. People come and go, days pass by, but the photos will stay.
