Hear me out, having some snaps is better than having no documentation at all! And I know your partner will try really really hard. But maybe it is time to also allow your partner to be fully in the space, to take it all in and most importantly; being able to be right by your side.

Birth can already be a lot, so if some form of documentation is important to you: let's make sure that we cross this worry off by booking a dedicated birth photographer.

Someone who understands how birth can unfold.
Who knows when to step closer and when to leave you be.
Someone who will be just as decorated to your birth story like your midwife and/or doula.

As World Breastfeeding Week comes to a close, I wanted to create something a little special for the parents who are in it right now. Whether you have been nursing for a few days or a few years, whether you are breastfeeding, chest feeding, or bottle feeding: this chapter is worth remembering.

I am opening four mini nursing photography experiences at the studio in Glasgow, on Saturday 26th of September!

Early labour. The wait. The settling in. Then things changed, and you find yourself suddenly in theatre.

The moment everything shifts. And then, finally, the first hold, two mums meeting their baby for the very first time.❤

This is one birth, told in nine photographs, from the quiet hours before, through to the minutes afterwards that change everything.

I've chosen these photographs because together they show what I mean when I say I document the whole story, not just the big moment, but everything that leads up to it and everything that comes after.

Every family's story looks different, and every single one deserves to be told with the same care.❤🏳️‍🌈

Not a studio. Not a backdrop. Not a single prop in sight.

Just a family, a handful of days into a brand new life, in the home they'll bring this baby up in.

Newborn sessions at home are quiet. Often a little chaotic in the best way, washing on the radiator, a sibling wandering in and out, someone making tea nobody drinks. I love all of it.

It's real, and it's exactly how I want to remember it for you.

If you've look at the birth photography options with me, you'll notice something in your package: a maternity session, included.

It's an important part of how I work as your birth photographer.

Your maternity session is the first time we spend real time together with a camera in hand, whether that's in the studio, at home, or somewhere else entirely.
You'll see how I move and what the camera looks like.
I sometimes jokingly call it your "meet the camera" session.

By your birth, none of that will be new anymore. You won't be meeting your birth photographer for the first time on one of the most important days of your life. You'll already know me.

It's a small thing on paper. In the room, it makes a real difference.

This is where most Maternity, Newborn and Nursing sessions begin: a cosy studio space, warm light, a wardrobe full of options if you want them, and absolutely no pressure if you don't.

There's tea and coffee and of course.. chocolates and sweeties.
Your favourite background music. And there's plenty of time, no session here is rushed.

If you've never been in a photography studio before, here's a little glimpse of what to expect when you arrive.

There's a moment in every birth that no one plans for.
For one family, it was almost the lift...

Labour moved so fast that there was barely time to get from the waiting room to the labour ward. This wee one was so eager to meet her parents that she nearly arrived on the way up.

No birth plan accounts for that. And yet, it was still exactly as it needed to be.

This is one of seven real birth stories on my website: home births, hospital births, water births and caesareans, each shared with full permission from the family involved.
