Spending a weekend with the amazing Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra has become a staple of my end of year calendar. This year's GIO Fest VIII brought back guests Marilyn Crispell, Corey Mwamba and Maggie Nicols and added the esteemed Keith Tippett, premiering a host of new works and collaborations and welcoming some newer voices to the orchestra itself. Thanks very much to GIO for having me along to capture it all! Here a few photos from across the three days...

I spent the last couple of weeks photographing Cryptic Glasgow's Sonica festival, capturing sound art installations and performances across Glasgow. My final stop of the fortnight was The Art School for this excellent Herzog-inspired piece by composer David Fennessy.

On Friday I had another great evening photographing the last of Rage Music's Studio Sessions this summer, this one featuring music from Catholic Action, just before they headed off to T in the Park. I'm really glad I took the chance to sample some of Jaw Brew's beer selection this time too, as they were fantastic! I'm just sad that we won't be back in the Rage Music garden next week...

I don't photograph as many gigs as I used to, but on Friday night I was in NICE N SLEAZY to catch Suzuki Junzo and, while it wasn't an easy night behind the camera, being there felt like seeing an old friend for the first time in ages. As well as Junzo, it was great to see Wounded Knee again, and they were both ably supported by newcomer to me Larks. Like old times!

Ingrid Mur and I photographed some great weddings last year and Fiona & Graeme's at Kirknewton House Stables was definitely one of them. Looking back I love seeing in the photographs how this shy, quiet couple came to really trust us as their photographers and how welcomed we were into their day!

An end of year highlight for me over the last few years has been photographing Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra's annual festival at CCA Glasgow, and 2014 was no exception.
