I love beautiful light. I love colour. I love wardrobe and styling. But none of those things matters much if the image doesn't feel believable. For me, the most interesting photographs are the ones where personality, intention and visual choices align. When the image doesn't feel performed. It simply feels true.

Borrowed Thoughts | Issue 01

Some conversations stay with me long after the interview ends.

This was one of them.

When Andrew Scott spoke about vulnerability as a strength, I didn't immediately think about acting.

I thought about the people who stand in front of my camera.

Many arrive believing they need to appear more confident.

More impressive.

More certain.

Yet the photographs they return to are rarely the ones where they're trying the hardest.

They're usually quieter.

More human.

Perhaps that's because connection doesn't begin with perfection.

It begins when something feels true.

A question worth sitting with:

Are you trying to look confident... or allowing yourself to be seen?

I don't think clarity arrives all at once. Usually it begins with uncertainty. A feeling that your photographs don't quite represent you anymore. That you've changed. That you want something different, but can't yet put it into words. The process isn't about giving people answers. It's about helping them ask better questions until their own answers become clearer.

If your current headshots feel disconnected from you, it doesn't necessarily mean they are bad. Sometimes it means the photographs were created before you understood what you wanted them to communicate. Before you knew how people naturally experience you. Before you had clarity about your casting goals. I don't believe photographs create identity. I think they communicate it. And clarity comes first.

Every actor arrives believing there's one version of themselves we need to find. I don't see it that way. What fascinates me isn't creating a new identity. It's noticing how many believable versions already exist. Warm. Guarded. Funny. Thoughtful. Authority. They're all the same person. The work isn't deciding who you should become. It's recognising which parts of you are already there.

Casting type is often misunderstood.

People hear the word type and imagine being placed into a small box with only one version of themselves allowed to exist.

That's never how I've seen it.

For me, casting type isn't about limiting possibility.

It's about recognising patterns.

The qualities people consistently notice.

The emotional impression you naturally leave.

The roles that already feel believable before you say a single word.

Once you understand those patterns, something changes.

You stop guessing.

You stop trying to become somebody else.

You begin making intentional choices about which parts of yourself you want to lean into and when.

Clarity doesn't reduce your options.

It gives you more control over them.

Some conversations stay with us long after they've ended.
Not because they give us answers.
But because they quietly change the questions we're asking.
I've learned that understanding people rarely happens all at once.
It often arrives through small moments.
A sentence that lingers.
A different perspective.
Something somebody says that suddenly makes another piece fall into place.
I think those moments deserve our attention.
Not because they tell us who we are.
But because they sometimes help us notice what has been there all along.

You can spend years trying to become something...
without noticing what people already see.
Sometimes who we think we are and how people experience us overlap.
Sometimes they don't.
Neither version tells the whole story.
That gap has changed the way I think about photographs.
Not because photographs define us.
But because they often reveal the stories we're already communicating.
I don't think the goal is to become somebody else.
I think the goal is to understand ourselves a little more clearly.
Everything else begins there.
