There is nothing quite like looking out over a sea of Somerset buttercups to clear the mind and restore the spirit. You really can't help but smile when walking through a field of bright yellow on a beautiful day!

Seeing the Tor standing steady in the distance, and the trees shaping themselves so beautifully against the sky, always reminds me of the power of resilience. Nature always knows exactly how to brighten up the week and remind us to appreciate the simple things. πŸŒ…βœ¨

I know I haven't been very active on this page lately and to be honest, my camera has been sitting a little quieter over the last three months. I’ve been entirely immersed in my work as a carer, standing right on the frontline of life's most fragile moments.

For me, photography and care have always come from the exact same place: a desire to stop time, to look deeply at the world, and to capture the profound beauty in the quiet, fleeting transitions of life.

I sat down during one of my final night shifts this weekend and wrote some reflections on what these past few months have taught me about vulnerability, presence and what it really means to look after one another.

I wanted to share it here with you, too...

It’s been almost three months since I last posted here, and to be honest, I haven’t had much time or space for writing. Instead, I’ve been entirely immersed in my work as a carer, and these past few months have been a profound reflection on what it really means to look after people.

All of my clients are at a very vulnerable stage of life, and some are very poorly. In the short time since I last shared an update, I lost one of my lovely ladies, I was the one who found her when she passed away. And now, this weekend marks my final weekend of night shifts with another wonderful lady before she moves into a care home next week.

Holding the space for these huge shifts brings up a lot of grief. It’s a heavy thing to carry, and it takes an emotional toll. But it also reminds me that grief is just the receipt for caring deeply. Sitting here in the quiet of these final night shifts, the stillness makes you think. It makes you look at how we, as a modern society, approach the most vulnerable chapters of our lives.

We’ve managed to push aging, vulnerability, and the end of life right behind closed doors. It’s become so clinicalised, neatly packaged and kept at a distance. Because we don’t see these moments as a natural, integrated part of daily life anymore, they can feel abstract and terrifying, rather than what they truly are: a profound, inevitable transition.

When care gets treated like a race against the clock or a clinical checklist of chores, we lose the ritual of it. We lose the raw honesty, the quiet dignity and the deep, communal healing that comes from simply facing life’s transitions openly and together.

But when you step into these spaces every day and choose to be entirely present, seeing the full spectrum of a person's life, history, and fragility, that illusion of distance completely evaporates. You realise that the challenges of aging or facing death aren't medical failures or taboos to hide. They are intimate, quiet realities that actually give meaning to the care, connection, and time we share while we are here.

It takes a lot of emotional groundedness to look past the sanitised version of the world and just sit with the truth of it. But that is exactly where real care lives.

Closing these chapters has made me realise, more than ever, that my path forward has to completely align with my core values. My heart is entirely in independent, person centred companion care. I want to dedicate my time and energy to supporting vulnerable people in our community, not by rushing through a list of tasks, but by building real, meaningful rapport, sharing quality of life outings, and offering an unhurried, dedicated presence to the people I work with.

Every single chapter of a person's journey deserves to be honoured with respect, trust and absolute transparency.

It is a true honour to walk alongside people and their families through these chapters of life. 🀍

Tonight, the sky didn't just fade, it ignited. Watching the sun dip behind the Tor, casting everything into deep shadow while the horizon turned to liquid gold... it felt like a silent prayer. There is a specific kind of peace that only comes when the light hits this angle. Good night ✨

There is a different kind of magic here, one that doesn't shout like a golden sunset, but whispers through the heavy, rain-kissed petals of a tulip and the vibrant reach of the ferns.

Wandering through this garden, beautifully designed by Penelope Hobhouse, you can feel the intention in every shadow and path. Passing through the dark archway feels like leaving the noise behind and entering a sanctuary.

Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to take a path that leads nowhere but deeper into the green, into these quiet, sheltered spaces, where the world slows down. 🌿🎍🌷

We woke up to grey skies this morning, but last night’s golden sunset still echoes in my heart. 🌞🧑

There was something different in the air yesterday, perhaps it was simply a reflection of my day. It was "one of those days," and taking a breathing space allowed me to finally go inward. Sunsets like this are like a battery for the soul, we store that light up to get us through the duller moments.

Even when the clouds move in, that warmth stays with us. We don't just watch the light; we absorb it, carrying the echo of the gold into the grey to remind us that the brilliance hasn't gone, it’s just resting.

If you’re having a "grey" day today, I hope these echoes of gold bring a little warmth to your spirit. May you find your own breathing space today. πŸ•ŠοΈβ€οΈ

On the way to work this evening, the world offered a moment of absolute grace and stillness.

As a micro-provider, my work is about more than just tasks, it’s about presence. It’s about bringing a sense of calm and care into the homes of those I support. I stood for a moment and watched the evening light settle over the Tor, realising that to care for others, we must first take a moment to be still ourselves.

Just as the trees stand quiet and the hills rest in the haze, we all need those moments to recharge our spirits. I’m carrying this soft, twilight peace with me tonight as I head to my visits...

Goodnight to those settling in, and may your evening be as peaceful as my view. πŸ•ŠοΈβœ¨

It was an absolutely glorious sunrise this morning. Standing in the stillness felt like a gift, a clean slate we are given each day.

In these quiet hours, nature doesn't rush to meet the day... it simply arrives. I stood by the water and watched a single ripple move across the surface; it felt like a perfect symbol of how our presence and our kindness move through the world. Just as a small ripple can travel far across still water, a single act of kindness can reach hearts we may never even meet.

To be in the moment is to realise that we don’t need to find peace... we just need to be still enough to let it find us.

Have a wonderful day ✨ Sending love from Avalon.

The sunset is nature’s most beautiful boundary. It is the symbolic end of "doing" and the gentle invitation into "being."

As the light fades, it reminds me that time isn't just a resource to be used, but a rhythm to be honored. Just as the earth prepares for stillness, we too are allowed to set down the day's weight and find our own quiet center. To connect with the sunset is to reconnect with ourselves, and for me an important reminder that rest is not luxury, but a vital part of our nature.

In the fading light of this evening, may you, too, find the peace that comes with simply letting go.✨️

They say that time is the only thing we can’t get more of, yet we often spend it rushing toward the next task or dwelling on the day behind us.

Caught between the gentle touch of frost and the first light, I was reminded of the importance of simply being. In that brief window where the sky turns to fire and almost invisible mist hugs the water, time seems to stretch. There is no past or future in these moments, only the breath you are taking and the light hitting the landscape.

Whether it's the silhouette of a lone tree against a gentle painted sky or the soft pinks reflecting in a still stream, these glimpses are nature’s way of asking us to slow down. To be present is to truly live the minutes we are given, rather than just counting them.

I hope these 'In-a-Moment' captures remind you to find a sliver of stillness in your own day today.... πŸ’œβœ¨
