Progress will be a little slow over the next few weeks, my daughters off for the October holidays and I've knackered my neck and shoulder doing a bungee swing.. or riding an invisible bull.. you decide..
I'm heading to my easel as we speak, but I'm limiting how much I draw until I feel less like an 80 year old with my aches and limited range of motion!
👵🏼 still have the mind of an 18 year old.. but clearly not the bones!!

Currently on the drawing board we have the handsome Flóki! I've been super excited for this piece since I laid eyes on the reference.

Since my last commissioned piece was on the downlow until it was gifted, I wasn't able to share any progress photos at the time, I did snap a few during the process, the first photo was after my first session on this portrait, blocking in some shadows and initial shapes, the second is the finished portrait.

On the easel today is the beautiful Myla, Slowly coming together. The most striking eyes and a cute scattering of freckles over her nose, she's a pleasure to draw !

Did you see the portrait I uploaded last night ? If you've missed it, if you click on to my page you'll see my first commission piece I've completed in years.
I'm giving myself a night away from the easel, because I am exhausted! So instead I thought I'd show off my daughters artwork. If you've been following my work for years you might remember ( or even own!) Millies Moments, the collab pieces we would work on together when she was a little girl, she's now in high school, and giving me a run for my money with her art skills !!

Good morning !
Secret commission completed, I'll be able to share with you all once it has been gifted to the lucky recipient !
Now I'm off to start a new portrait of this little beauty ❤️

Doesn't this little sweetheart have the most beautiful eyes? Her Mother put her complete trust in me and had paid me in full without ever seeing her portrait, the first time she saw it was when the postie delivered her portrait! The whole experience was both very touching, and terrifying! I always get super nervous sending clients photographs of their finished portraits, not that I've ever had an unhappy customer in all of the years I've been offering portraits, but I get the fear every single time, so this was next level nerves! Luckily I can add another happy client to my list ,phew!!

Just a little check in and apology for being quiet. I'm supposed to be working on a secret commission but I'm being plagued with technical problems which have me ready to rip my hair out.
Trust me, im trying!😭
Issue after issue and it's cost me hundreds trying to rectify.
All commissions still stand, please know how much I appreciate everyone's patience.
I understand this is less than ideal and it's really getting me down. I've found a work around to start this commission tomorrow and will be on a mission to fix my laptop, printer and photo software issues ASAP 🙃

I'll be starting my next commission tomorrow, it's a gift so I can't share progress of this one, so I thought I'd share my Johnny Cash portrait from a live drawing competition I took part in years ago. As far as I'm aware, this is still hanging on a wall upstairs somewhere in the Rothes halls. Has anybody seen it on display?

Comparing one of the first portraits I did of my daughter to the newest portrait. I wonder what the 2035 portrait will look like, my little girl will be in her mid twenties by then!! I wonder if I'll be restarting the cycle and drawing any grandbabies, capturing them in pencil year by year just like I did with Millie!? If my eyesight allows of course !

Lessons have been learned during this portrait!!
I've learned I'll always underestimate how long my portraits will take me.
I've learned that any old kneadable won't infact do the job, it'll destroy your paper and make the graphite stick and go patchy.
I've learned portraiture sure as 💩 isn't like riding a bike.
I've also learned you can take 59282 photographs of your work, in various locations with various light sources and it'll never accurately show what I'm looking at on paper. So you'll just have to take my word for it, it looks SO much better on paper, but I'm an artist, unfortunately I'm not much of a photographer or photo editor.

Onwards and upwards, on to your guys portraits now that I've got a new eraser coming, the same style I've always used. I'm just so glad it's my own work that has been damaged rather than a commission piece, although it's irritating none the less.
