My friend said something to me recently that I haven't been able to stop thinking about.

"I don't know if I actually remember it, or if I just remember the photograph."

And honestly? That's not a sad thing. That's the photograph doing exactly what it's supposed to do.

Our brains are not perfect recorders. Childhood especially - so much of it slips through the gaps before we even have the language to hold onto it. But a photograph on a wall, a print in a frame, an album pulled out on a rainy afternoon - those become the anchors. The things our memory wraps itself around and calls real.

When children grow up seeing images of themselves - really seen, in ordinary moments, in their own home, with the people they love - they're not just looking at pictures. They're building a story about who they are and where they came from.

I was loved here. This was real. This happened.

That's why I do what I do. Not to create perfect images. To create the ones that your children will one day look at and feel something settle inside them - even if they can't quite remember the day itself.

The photograph becomes the memory. And that's enough. That's everything.
