The Model 1, the OG, the granddaddy of the SX-70. A camera built while Polaroid was still figuring out how to make the SX-70, but before cost saving really hit the family. If you’re planning on buying an SX-70 and find a model 1 to buy we generally recommend you set aside a bit of repair money in case the normal issues crop up over its life. However, there’s nothing a good service won’t fix.

sent us her neglected model 1 for a 600 conversion. It quite quickly became apparent that the camera required a bit more work than just a conversion having been dropped in its previous life.

Fully rebuilt, 600 converted and bearing the scars of its former battle with the ground, this one is a survivor. This beautiful camera has been fully repaired, service bulletin items addressed, given a complete serviced, cleaned and put back to its original state.

Ready to continue its journey covered in perhaps one of our favorite leather skin. This skin was cut specifically for Verity.

This beautiful Alpha 1 came in for a 600 conversion and reskin. We converted the camera, gave it a general tube up to make sure everything runs smoothly and reskinned it.

Its owner wanted something different to our traditional leather skins, so we made him a wooden skin.

We love the combo of wood on the silver body.

What do you think? Would you pick a leather or wooden cover for you SX-70?

We dislike robbing Peter just to pay Paul, however this is often the case when fixing 50 year old cameras. So we set out to change that by remaking the original door latch for the Sx-70.

Door latches - especially on early SX-70s - are a common point of failure. They are quite brittle and after many years of use or mistreatment they have a tendency to shear leading to a film door that won’t stay closed. We’ve replaced several door latches over the years, sadly rendering several latch less cameras to the parts bin.

Enough is enough. We redesigned the original latch and had it built from high grade stainless steel. This means we can bring down the cost for this repairs, keeps a few more cameras from unnecessarily ending up in the parts bin and use replacent parts that will most likely outlast your camera.

Apart for using them in our repairs we will also be offering these up for sale. If you’re fixing your own camera and need a replacement door latch, just let us know.

Peek-a-boo! A sneak peak at the Polanthropy mini-Assistant. A rechargeable battery for your sonar camera.

This tiny device is what we use to film test all of your sonar cameras. It allows us to use iType film making repairs cheaper and more sustainable. It has taken several iterations over the last few years, however we were never quite happy with its form factor - until now.

Let us know what you think in the comments and if you want to be the first to try one out get in contact. We have a limited run available with official release in April.
