Redeye - The Photography Network Photography & Photographers Regular portfolio critique and advice sessions are held with curators, picture editors and experienced photographers.

Redeye is a UK-based photography network with a broad membership, many of whom are full or part-time photographers, artists and other creatives. Based in Manchester, it works with a large number of partner organisations such as galleries, universities and other photographic and arts organisations across the country to deliver its events, training and development. With funding support from Arts Cou

ncil England, Redeye organises various events every year, including talks each year by established photographers and workshops running at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. As a Community Benefit Society and non-profit organisation, Redeye particularly welcomes and encourages photography enthusiasts to get involved, volunteering at events and suggesting new ideas. Redeye looks continually at what is happening in the practice of photography and about what can be done to keep it healthy, delivering activities to achieve that.

📸 We are honoured to have given photographers on all levels, a platform and voice during Redeye, The Photography Network’s extensive lifetime.

📈 Today, we are proud to look back and share with you a summary of our achievements and history from our 26 years.

👥 Our Reach:

We have reached over 20,000 people during our time, across our mailing lists and social media.

🎟 Our Events:

We have hosted over 500 events.

📸 Our Programmes:

Over 88 places were booked for events that supported recent photography graduates to receive ongoing support and advice across a full year, including our popular Graduate Mentoring and Awards programme.

36 Career Development sessions took place, with over 30 attendees on average.

We ran 28 Critique Surgeries - where participants would receive informal advice on their projects - and more than 35 Portfolio Review events, including over 200 hours of one-to-one advice.

13 Hothouse events were held, where photographers would provide quick-fire presentations about their work; these had an average attendance of over 50 people.

12 Member-led events, where we enabled Redeye members to create their own events by providing the administrative support needed.

We established the National Photography Symposium in 2009 and ran a total of eight National Photography Symposiums, as a place for photographers to gather and talk about the most important issues of the moment.

We ran six Lightbox courses of varying content for those wanting to either focus on their photography, collaboration, leadership or their opportunities in a changing world.

We have hosted five Climate Aware Photography courses, where photographers become certified by us and The Carbon Literacy Project as Climate Aware Photographers.

We also hosted a multitude of other types of events including more than 60 Networking events, 31 Masterclasses with a variety of photographers, Artist Talks and many, many more.

☺️ A few kind words from a former participant who attended a past event:

“Motivational and informative, something for all specialisms to take with them”

📸 We hope you will join us in celebrating our many achievements and our history.

We regret to announce that after 26 years of supporting photographers and championing photography throughout the UK, Redeye, the Photography Network will wind down on 31 July 2024 due to a number of factors, including lack of funding.

Redeye was set up to advocate for photographers at every level and build networks across photography, delivering an innovative and vital programme. We are actively continuing to explore potential options for new provision of this service and hope to make a further announcement in the near future.

Over the next few weeks, we will celebrate our proud history of giving a voice to photographers, helping with professional development, and providing a platform to share photography events, photographers’ work and relevant opportunities. We will mark the many achievements the network has made through the hard work and dedication of Redeye staff and its board of directors. We would like to thank all our members, supporters and the photographers who have helped shape us, particularly in the North of England.

Please continue to check this social channel and our website (link in bio) for further announcements in the coming weeks.

🤖 Are you interested in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its increasing impact on the photography world?

📝 We certainly are, especially after attending The Royal Photographic Society's ‘Photography and Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference’ towards the end of last year. Check out our latest blog post where we interviewed two specialists in the field who spoke at the conference; Katrina Sluis and Caroline Sinders.

🤖 What got these experts into researching AI?
🤖 How does AI affect photographers and the sector?
🤖 Should photographers be concerned about AI?
