Made the best of nature’s unrelenting diffusion ā˜ļø on a recent shoot with

Sideways drizzle has been standard for most shoots so far this year, so very grateful for the small glimmers of spring 🌼 we’ve had in recent days.

Big thanks to for the expert assistance and for the commission.

You know when you pop in to grab a coffee on your way to a shoot and find a straight up wagon boss waiting for his eggs and beans?

I know, I know, it’s a tale as old as time.

Or.

OR.

Not.

In unrelated news, but slightly related to this pic of the lovely from our time filming with early last year, I’m kind of obsessed with cold plunge.

Some images carry a weight of meaning you could never convey in a caption or post.

It was such an honour to be entrusted with this shoot. Though the story behind it is not mine to tell, I hope there’s enough here in the image alone.

It’s Penny!

Biscuits, brews and great chats. If I was being scored solely for keeping to time this one would have been a bust, but thankfully we did manage to squeeze some portraits in.

This was the perfect shoot for me - no plan, lots of natter and just seeing what came out as we shot. It’s been a while since I had all three in a shoot.

We nearly lost Penny to a rogue v-flat but I was smart enough to get her to sign the health and safety waiver whilst she was distracted with tea. Pro moves.

Who knew that a random DM to a stranger on Instagram (a slide? Is that a thing? Hey Google…) would lead to such great stuff?

One of the best things to come out of filming with different groups for This Valley earlier in the year was meeting Nicola.

Despite us being relative strangers, she invited us into her fab wild swimming community, organised swims, helped us find people to interview and was an all round beaut.

People like Nic are genuinely the best part of the job.

I’m now going to have to explain why I’m getting Reddit suggestions for ā€˜How to slide into her DMs effectively’ to

Torrential rain, rogue gazebos and missing dancers - it could only be a shoot with

That might be what went wrong, but so much went right. This was such a powerful and important cultural event, brought to a new audience in Bradford as part of

I was joined on the day by the talented who thankfully took the lead on stills as I bungled about trying to work three cameras at once.

Things learned on this shoot:

- Upsides to a poncho - protection against cloud based moisture

- Downsides to a poncho - creating a human greenhouse that leads to quite unstoppable armpit based moisture

Julio - Halifax Wheelchair Rugby.

We had so little time to film this interview and basically stole the opportunity to shoot a couple of portraits.

We’d initially set up in the dance studio at a local college but just as we started rolling an entire class of teenage girls turned up and started eyeballing us.

I’ve seen this happen in enough films to know when it’s time to freeze and pray they’ll leave you alone. Their vision being based on movement after all.

For some reason that didn’t work, so we packed up and hastily made our exit. Finding another spot to shoot nearby.

I much prefer having time to play with when it comes to making portraits with people but this wasn’t one of those times.

Happy we could get it done and Julio, as always, was amazing. I’m glad one of us brought some professionalism.

It’s exhibition eve!

Tomorrow marks the opening of the Common Ground exhibition, which will run from Friday 13th - Saturday 28th June at in Halifax.

The exhibition is a chance to see both of the short films that premiered in April (Home Ground and This Valley), whilst taking a deeper look at some of the stories and people they featured.

We’re hosting an opening night which will include a screening of the two films, a new dance performance from the fantastic , live poetry and a chance to see some photography ( including. .chapman.photographs ), painting, stories and items of meaning connected to the films.

If that sounds like an irresistible Friday night or you simply find it hard to turn down free wine and popcorn - you can RSVP through the link in my bio to let us know you’re coming. We’d love to see you there!

Fun fact: I interviewed David as part of the commission and spent 25 minutes trying to figure out why my mic wasn’t working before realising I’d turned the volume down on the camera.

I ooze professionalism.

So lovely to have the fabulously talented ._.22 back in the studio recently.

Kira originally picked me from a Google search (a miracle in itself given I’m on page 75) because I appeared to be the most unhinged of all her options.

I wear this as a badge of honour.
