This year nature has had our backs when weβve needed it most!
π
Iβve been focused on making my little garden as friendly as I can this year and will be working on projects that celebrate the environment, good health and creativity for 2021.
π
One of the highlights of my year was seeing a bat release flight cage and the little brown long eared bats up close π¦ Thereβs so much hard work that goes on behind the scenes of wildlife rescue.
π¦
I started volunteering for Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue this year and seeing how many little hogs come through in need of help is incredible. So thanks to every one doing their bit, big or small, for nature!
π
Happy Christmas every one and wishing all a wonderful New Year.
Our top nine in 2020 π
What a year it has been!
To have only started SWR in May during one of the most challenging times but to have received so much support from the public and volunteers has been amazing. βΊοΈ
We have achieved so much in a short period of time:
β’ We started Severn Wildlife Rescue in May;
β’ We were featured on the BBC One Show in June;
β’ Built a Bat Flight Cage at Dean Farm Trust this summer;
β’ We have worked with amazing filmmakers Roxy the Zoologist and Mia Rumble Films;
β’ We did some filming with a filmmaker from BBC Wales;
β’ We have an amazing team of 48 volunteers based in Bristol and Wales, an awesome feat considering there was only 9 of us at the start. π
β’ We have connected with some fantastic rescues and people: Dean Farm Trust, The Pidge Inn, Vale Wildlife Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre, Hereford Bat Rescue, Jeff Brown, Hedgehog Rescue Chipping Sodbury, UK Wildlife Transporters, Valley Vets - to just name a few!
β’ Last but definitely not least we have rescued over 100 wild animals from birds to bats, to hedgehogs to rats this year. π¦π
The exact numbers will be up in our new years blog post which will also share with you stories written by our volunteers about their favourite rescues. π¦
Keep an eye out for our Christmas Day blog post written by our rescue coordinator Ruth Martin who will be sharing with you some of her favourite rescue stories and phone calls.
A massive thank you to all of you who made this rescue possible. Only by working together with the public, vets, volunteers and other rescues, sharing our resources and knowledge, will we be able to save our UK wildlife. They need us now more than ever!
Merry Christmas fellow wildlife lovers! π₯°βοΈ
