Geilston Garden NTS is one of my favourite local places to visit and I'm really pleased to have once again been asked by the Friends of Geilston to run some photography workshops there. The first one is on the 23rd May from, 2pm to 4pm. This Spring Workshop will concentrate on the Walled Garden and greenhouse area, focusing on the shapes, colours and textures of flowers and other plants as well as the infrastructure of the garden. We will look at the impact of light on our images, and how we might manipulate that to get different results from the same subject, as well as considering composition and framing. Participants should meet at the ‘coffee hut’ for a briefing before the group makes its way to the walled garden where we will work through a number of exercises before moving to some free-exploration of the garden. We will return to the coffee hut area for a debrief and sharing of images. It would be advantageous for participants to bring their own camera, preferably one which can be operated in manual mode, but there will still be plenty to do for those who wish to use a phone camera.
Cost £12.50. Places limited to 10 attendees.

Good morning! I will be at the benches (or as near to them as I can get) with a few members from the Jean's Bothy Photography & Wellbeing Group at 12noon, for the dog show today. We will be there for about an hour (at the dog show, not the benches!) Hope to see some of you there!

Comfort and Disturb

Autumn both comforts and disturbs me. For a number of reasons. I love the changing colours on the plants, but I find I'm most aware of the year running away with me in Autumn. Soon it will be winter and then another year is ticked off.

Good morning everybody! It looks like it's going to be another glorious day here in Helensburgh so I hope you will find some time to get your cameras out and make some images for our April theme: Flora. I'm heading out to Geilston Garden NTS with some of the members of Jean's Bothy's Photography & Wellbeing Group today where we will also be looking at flowers - in the run up to small exhibition on our Open Day. You don' have to go far to find flora though - and they don't have to be fancy. You could choose to shoot any and all the flowers you come across or you might want to pick one type of flower and just shoot that. I'm going for daisies this month and trying to find out as much about them as I can. Has anyone tried Daisy Tea before?!
