Autumnal weather….it’s either hammering down every 30 minutes or absolute golden sunshine and perfect blue sky!
Here is a small selection of shots I took yesterday afternoon during a very dry, warm, bird-whistling filled meander:
- Almost sunset, shining perfectly above the greenhouse.
- A confused Clematis, with looooads of buds.
- An even more confused Raspberry that thinks it’s spring.
- A flowering Escallonia, Red Elf…stunning! I wasn’t expecting flowers this late.
- A very confused Courgette flower, one of many coming through.
- And the most confused of all, a beautiful pink Dahlia. There are also two more buds.

I will be exhibiting/selling my greenhouse and garden wares at the fabulous Autumn Plant Fair in Kington, Herefordshire next Sunday 🌱
The gardens are stunning (over 70 acres), there will be nearly 50 other stalls (plants, food, crafts) at the event and the awesome .at.hergest tea room will be offering cakes, lunches and drinks!

A small handful of shots during a wander along the River Wye 💦
The River Wye is spectacular, however, due to farm run-off, pollution and general ongoing bad treatment it is struggling, as is every bit of wildlife that lives in it, uses it, depends on it for survival. Hence on a number of my posts. Visit for more details on this and how you might be able to help.
Photos:
1) The stunning Hereford Cathedral (home to the Mappa Mandi medieval treasure) and a bit of the Left Bank Village and De Koffee Pot can also be seen - photo taken from the Wye Bridge ⛪️
2) Same location, but I went to the effort of looking to the right a bit 👀
3) Hereford Rowing Club, who have a function room for hire and they also do a great fry up buffet every weekend (fully recommended!) 🚣‍♀️
4) A couple houses to the right of Hereford Rowing Club, I know nothing more - this photo was taken under the Wye Bridge (which you can see the underside of at the top of the shot) 🌊
5) Same location, this time mainly of a hopeful fisherman…judging by his body language and soft mutterings, it was a quiet day! The bridge is above again, and it was another glance to the right 🎣

We visited the excellent in Chichester again recently to see the fantastic Gwen John exhibition () 🎨
To resolve any confusion the only photo I took in this exhibition was the wall intro in the first photo, the other shots were part of another exhibition that was also taking place. This one included works by Lucian Freud, Lowry, Julian Opie and Peter Blake! 🤌
Back to Gwen: “Gwen John’s work is both instantly recognisable and era-defining. She is known for the quiet strength of the solitary women in her portraits and the reflective stillness of her interiors. But for decades she was overshadowed by her famous brother Augustus and often portrayed as a recluse. This exhibition expels this myth and re-examines the significance of John’s work alongside her fellow international modernists.” (Pallant House Gallery).
The Gwen John exhibition is on for another two weeks, and is very much worth a visit if you can get there.
Great cafe, good toilets, nice people, accessibility for all and parking very nearby.

We recently had an afternoon in Selsey, West Sussex 🌊
It was pouring when we arrived, so we took shelter in the Lifeboat Inn, a nice old skool pub that served great coffee - they don’t seem to be on Insta, so I can’t tag them. After a couple of hours the great British weather didn’t let us down, it was like a new day! 🙃
We went for a walk along the seafront, perfect….only slightly ruined by the caravans that were pitched up along most of the main grass area (I didn’t take a photo of these!) it wasn’t great to see such a lovely location almost taken over - I’m sure there is something underway to fix this! 🤞
Anyway, on a positive note, what an outlook and lovely place, as always.
