CHASING THE LIGHT ☀️

Sometimes the set is already there — you just have to notice what the light is doing.

Working with Kimi Uriu at Lite Studio, I loved the way the afternoon sun was pouring through those wonderful old windows, creating hard pools of light, deep shadows and patterns from the palms across the walls and furniture.

Add a simple white dress and that beautiful painted parasol and suddenly we had something that felt wonderfully calm and slightly cinematic.

What I particularly enjoyed about this set was moving Kimi around the space and letting the available light dictate the photographs rather than trying to fight it. From the bright window seat to the much quieter portrait on the sofa, the same little corner of the studio produced completely different moods.

Kimi was an absolute pleasure to photograph and made the whole sequence look wonderfully effortless.

A brilliantly organised day at Lite Studio by Ella and Joe, with a great collection of models and sets to work with. Huge thanks to everyone involved.

FRAMED IN BLACK 🖤

Sometimes the location does half the photographer’s job for you.

At Elveden Hall, everywhere you turn there seems to be another frame within a frame — carved plasterwork, old doorways, faded decoration and layer upon layer of extraordinary detail.

And then you put Darcie in the middle of it wearing that black gown.

I love the stillness of this image. There’s no grand gesture, no movement, no elaborate story to explain. Just Darcie, beautifully poised, surrounded by a room that feels as though it has been waiting rather a long time for her to arrive.

The softness of the black tulle against all that intricate architecture was a wonderful contrast, while Darcie’s pose and expression give the photograph that slightly mysterious quality I always enjoy.

Is she the lady of the house, a visitor from another time… or simply someone who has discovered the perfect place to wear an enormous black ballgown?

I think I’ll leave that to you. 🖤

MEET FERN 🌿🐾

The newest — and possibly most mischievous — addition to the family.

I’d completely forgotten just how much fun having a puppy can be… and how much of the day can disappear simply watching them, laughing at their antics and wondering what on earth they’re going to do next.

Fern has already appointed herself chief broom chaser, official stick collector and general household entertainment officer. Apparently, the garden is full of things that absolutely must be brought indoors.

She’s also rapidly becoming my new favourite model. Always available, never complains about an early start and, so far, her modelling fee appears to be payable entirely in treats.

Looking at this little face, you’d never believe she could possibly be responsible for any trouble whatsoever… would you? ❤️

Welcome to the family, Fern. I have a feeling there are going to be rather a lot of photographs of you. 📸🐶

CAUGHT BETWEEN EARTH AND AIR ✨

There are moments in dance photography when gravity seems to become optional.

Anna and Alona gave me plenty of those.

What I love about these images is the contrast. One dancer poised and controlled, the other seemingly suspended in mid-air — while yards of shimmering gold fabric twist, fly and create shapes of their own.

Add the parasol and suddenly something that began as a studio setup starts to feel almost theatrical.

Timing photographs like these is a wonderful combination of planning and unpredictability. You can decide on the light, the composition and roughly where you want the movement to happen — but once the dancer leaves the ground, there is a fraction of a second when everything has to come together.

The jump. The expression. The feet. The fabric. The other dancer. And the shutter.

When it works, you know immediately.

Anna and Alona are extraordinary to photograph because they bring not only the technical precision of accomplished dancers, but an incredible willingness to experiment. We could try something, change it, push it a little further and then suddenly create a frame none of us could have completely planned.

And I think that is where some of the best photographs live — somewhere between choreography and chance.

A fabulous day of flying fabric, impossible-looking jumps, laughter and rather a lot of “let’s do that one more time!” ❤️

WHEN TWO BECOME ONE ✨

Sometimes you arrive at a shoot with an idea in your head and a collection of mood-board images, and then something rather wonderful happens — the reality turns out better than the plan.

Working with Anna and Alona is like that.

Individually they are extraordinary dancers, but together they seem to work almost as one. There’s an instinctive understanding between them — of balance, timing, shape and where the other person is going to be before they even get there. As a photographer, it is an absolute joy to watch… and even better to photograph.

The first image was one of those ideas I really wanted to make work. We talked it through, they found the position and the very first frame nailed it. That probably says everything about these two.

From the quiet trust of that first photograph, through the almost mirror-like symmetry beneath the parasol, to the explosion of movement and red in the final image, they just kept creating.

And that was really the story of the day: ideas becoming photographs, lots of laughter, plenty of high fives and that wonderful feeling when you look at the back of the camera and think, yes — that’s the one.

Anna and Alona may be twins, but photographically there is something even more fascinating than simply looking alike. They understand each other. Two individual dancers, two personalities, two extraordinary talents — but when the moment comes, they move as one.

Days like this are exactly why I love what I do. ❤️

There is something extraordinary about twins. ❤️
That unspoken connection. The way they seem to know what the other is thinking before a word is spoken. And, perhaps most of all, that instinct to protect one another.
For me, this photograph is about exactly that.
Anna and Alona are individually remarkable dancers, but put them together and something else happens. Every movement, every line and every glance seems connected. Here, wrapped together in red and shimmering light, I love the sense that one is almost sheltering the other — two individuals, but an unmistakable bond between them.
Today’s shoot was simply awesome. Sometimes everything comes together — wonderful performers, a great team, beautiful styling and the freedom to create — and you come away knowing you've made something a little bit special.

When it’s far too hot outside… find somewhere you need a jumper. ❤️

On one of the hottest days of the year, spending the day inside the extraordinary Grade II listed Elveden Hall seemed like a very good idea.

What I hadn’t anticipated was quite how wonderfully cool it would be. By the end of the day I was beginning to think bringing a jumper might have been an equally good idea!

And what a place to photograph. Faded grandeur, incredible architectural detail, beautiful window light and rooms that seem to have a story in every corner. Against all those warm, muted tones, Emily in this glorious explosion of red was simply made for it.

A huge thank you to Tabitha for organising such an iconic location and putting together another fabulous day, and to everyone involved in making the images happen.

And especially lovely to be back photographing my wonderful coffee-loving friend Emily Massey — who, as always, brought her A-game. ☕️❤️

Some photographs capture a moment. Others capture a journey. Today, this certificate represents mine.

Today I finally framed my Licentiateship certificate from the Royal Photographic Society, and I have to admit it brought a smile to my face.

When I first picked up a camera many years ago, I simply wanted to make better photographs. I never imagined that one day I would earn a distinction from the world's oldest photographic society.

Looking back through the ten images that formed my successful panel, I realise they tell a story not just of different subjects, but of the photographer I have become. From portraiture and documentary work to landscapes, architecture, movement, animals and creative storytelling, each image represents a lesson learned, a challenge overcome, or a moment that simply felt right.

Receiving the certificate somehow makes it all feel real.

Photography has given me so much over the years. It has introduced me to incredible people, taken me to extraordinary places, and continually reminded me that there is always something new to learn. Every workshop I've attended, every model who has trusted me, every client, every camera club member, and every friend who has offered encouragement has played a small part in this achievement.

So thank you.

This certainly isn't the finish line—far from it. If anything, it's another starting point. My Associate distinction is already well underway, and the Fellowship project continues to evolve. There is still so much I want to create, so much to improve, and so many stories waiting to be told.

For now though, I'm simply going to enjoy this moment.

Sometimes it's important to stop, look back, and appreciate how far you've travelled before setting off towards the next destination.

When the day finally exhales... the garden begins to whisper. 🌿✨
There is a quiet kind of magic that arrives with the evening.
The busy world softens, shadows grow longer, birds offer their final song, and one by one the lights begin to glow—not to banish the darkness, but to welcome it.
I’ve always believed that gardens heal us.
Not because they solve our problems, but because they remind us to slow down. To notice the scent of jasmine carried on a warm breeze. The gentle rustle of leaves overhead. The dance of light across old timber and weathered stone. To sit with a cup of tea—or perhaps a glass of something stronger—and simply be.
Every tree planted, every flower nurtured, every lantern carefully placed becomes part of a living story. A place where children build adventures, wildlife finds refuge, conversations linger long into the evening, and weary minds quietly find their way home again.
As daylight fades, the garden doesn’t disappear.
It transforms.
Into somewhere that feels almost enchanted.
Sometimes the greatest luxury isn’t travelling somewhere extraordinary.
It’s creating a little piece of magic just beyond your own back door.
✨ Here’s to gardens... the places that restore us, inspire us, and quietly mend the parts of ourselves the world has worn a little thin.

🍃 Where the River Slows, Creativity Flows 🍃

Some images feel less like photographs and more like moments borrowed from a storybook.

Nestled beside the river beneath the shelter of an ancient tree, Emma brought a quiet elegance to this scene that perfectly captured the spirit of the day. With Amanda's beautifully considered styling, every location felt as though it had been waiting years for us to discover it.

What I loved most about this shoot wasn't just the imagery—it was the pace. No rushing from setup to setup. No pressure to move on. Just a group of creatives enjoying the process, sharing ideas, chasing pockets of beautiful light, and allowing each scene to unfold naturally.

As photographers, we're often focused on creating the final image, but sometimes the real magic lies in the conversations, the laughter, the unexpected discoveries, and those peaceful moments beside a river when time seems to stand still.

This frame reminds me exactly why I love photography.
