📸 Another (1976) Olympus Trip 35 in "British Racing Green" Leather is heading north... this time to beautiful Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands! 🌊
For those not familiar with this lovely place, Cromarty sits at the tip of the Black Isle, a peninsula in the Highlands of northern Scotland, UK, overlooking the Cromarty Firth and around 20 miles north-east of Inverness. It’s a wonderfully preserved little historic town of fishermen’s cottages, Georgian houses, narrow lanes and big coastal views.
The sea has shaped Cromarty for centuries. It was already an important trading settlement in medieval times and later became a thriving port, trading with places as far afield as Scandinavia and continental Europe. Its handsome harbour was rebuilt in 1784 by celebrated engineer John Smeaton.
It was also the birthplace of 19th-century Scottish geologist and writer Hugh Miller, whose work studying the area's remarkable fossil fish helped develop our understanding of Earth's distant past.
💡 Did you know? The dramatic headlands guarding the entrance to the firth are called the Sutors of Cromarty. Local legend says they were once inhabited by two giant shoemakers who tossed their tools across the water to one another! 👞😂
With old cottages, harbour boats, beaches, Highland scenery and the occasional dolphin out in the firth, I suspect this little Trip 35 won't be short of things to photograph. 📸🐬
Although knowing Scottish weather, it may also become extremely accomplished at photographing clouds. 😂☁️
